Picking up my 04 TDI 130 se on Saturday, what sort of mods/upgrades should I consider first? [B)]

i'd make sure everything is in good working order before spending on mods. the last thing you need is to spend loads on mods then discover you need tyres/brakes changing.

Everything is spick and span, only 39K on the clock, MOT'd and all has been multi point checked :)

Depends on your insurance really. If that's not a problem, then a remap is an excellent first mod. But if your insurance company don't like it, that idea goes right out of the window.

For what it's worth, these things are worthwhile and good value, in terms of the improvement Vs cost....

Big mods = Remap, anti roll bars, suspension
Smaller mods = Short shifter, Dogbone engine mount, air filter, HID's
Tiny odds and sods = Fabia rear wiper, sunglasses holder, small front plate, Honda aerial

Definitely a remap if I were you - I had my 130 for a year before I had that done and never looked back. Just be careful it's not too torquey or aggressive or an uprated clutch will be next on the list.

Thanks guys!

lard44, what kind of increase BHP and torque wise did you get from your remap on the 130?

I've got actual dyno plot at home if you want me to scan it and send it across? It was a custom code...

nah thats kewl, just wanted an idea of the improvement. My friend had his done and got 196bhp from the standard 130.

That sounds like the turbo must be working pretty damned hard to get those kind of figures!

My map was pretty smooth and torquey all the way through the rev range - but 196 from just a remap? Wow!

that is VERY high!
not even heard of 150's getting that!
My GTTDI golf done 174.7bhp 300lb torque!
that was from Bedrock VeeDubs up here.
done a 15.2 at crail with 15's no name bald tyres and no grip at crail!
would pull to 147 on speedo with no problem!

I think thats what he said, he and another friend of mine know a man who is very good at it, he's into proper race car tuning etc. I shall check to make sure!!

187.9 bhp to be exact, he says it runs very well!

so apologies for saying it was 196bhp, i must have misheard!

The problem for me was not the bhp but the torque - I was aware of the clutch - when I got rid of it at 40k it was beginning to slip a little bit when I booted it.

The handy thing about some of the diesel maps is the fact that they are switchable - so I just went and switched it off!
