Hi Gents,

Its been a while ... the Cupra has been running fault free for over 10,000 miles now but was a little miffed to find the engine management light came on after I started the car on Monday.

VAGCOM plugged in gave this:

17544 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Lean
P1136 - 35-00 - -
Readiness: 0000 1001
(Add): System too Lean
P1136 - 35-00 - -

Thinking it was just a minor problem I reset the codes and the light went out ... this morning it came back on again  ... so plugged in VAGCOM again and its the same error code.

Whats strange is that the light only came on both times when the car was idling...

Now from what I have read up on here and also Ross tech wiki its either the MAF or a vacuum leak?

Now the MAF is only six months old ... so I dont think it will be that therefore I'm thinking vacuum leak - does this sound right and if so whats the best way to trace it?

Cheers

Scott

Remove the black plastic cover, move the two allen head bolts holding the bracket to the inlet manifold, then it can be manoeuvred about.

If you remove the dipstick, cover the hole with a rag, or i reserve the right to call you a dipstick ;)

Had a quick look tonight with the engine covers off and picked up on a couple of things:

- there seems a couple of pipes under the inlet manifold that are covered in a fine mist of oil and a hissing noise can be heard...

- the forge 007p DV seems to be hissing when I place my ear near it ... is this normal?

- the carbon canister is a noisy bugger :D

The oil will be from a split breather, but that's not on the vacuum side.
Can't hear any hisses under my engine bay, you didn't get that 007 that long ago did you?

Well I took the metal plate off (broke the dip stick housing ) and started the car... could feel air around the back of the metal plate and found split hose. It had a two inch split in it ...

Followed the pipe up and it goes up to the DV piping so its a vacuum hose  ... cut the split section out and used some alum tubing the same size bore as the pipe and some jubliee clips. Thats that sorted...

I have wiped the fault code and hope for the best :D

007p is less than six months old ... so dont think its a problem

sounds like youve sorted it. :)

Not convinced yet... :D

Will see if the light comes on in a couple of days or not as the case maybe ... traced the piping back and it goes next to the DV not into it as I thought so I think it might be a breather hose not a vac hose :(

I cant see a split breather hose causing the problem although initial drive after the fix the car feels much smoother!!!

Thing is I have checked the rest of the pipes carefully and cant find anything else wrong!

EVERYONE with cupra 1.8T should check this pipe... I still cannot believe what a huge difference its made to the car and its obviously been like that since I bought it imho.

I wonder if all the problems I had with the re-map was down to this pipe?

I this the y /t piece under the inlet manifold with some non return valves? My bro had that split on his s3 and allways seeing it on here........seems to be fairly common.

Will be checking mine tomorrow cause I've had that come up before about it being too lean.

i have the same fault code and a garage said nothing serious something needs a clean in the engine. removed the code several times, comes on once a week. will deffo be checking that tho, cheers.
