How do,

Iv had a bit of a stupid idea that im pretty sure ur gona laugh at, criticise and take the micky and tell me to buy a cupra blah blah blah!!

But anyway im thinking of supercharging my Leon, yes its a 1.6, yes im 21 but mehh its something different and pretty unique and iv spent enough on it getting the looks right.

Now obviously the 1.6 8v is a golf engine, with an old golf tranmission setup, so how plausible would a G60 setup be? Or will have a to go down the Mini setup.

So yeh....bit of a supercharger n00b so will be looking for some pointers really!

Before i get grief about it costing me 10 billlion quid, i understand that there may/will be some serious costs involved, but to be honest its a project that im willing to put everything into and labour is not a problem (i know the difference between a spanner and a jack, plus my dad and g-dads are ex mechanics)

All im after is some serious advice from people in the know.

Thanks

Jimski

Serious advice from people in the know rules me out.

However, that sounds like a truly outrageous plan and you should stick to keeping in a 1.6 8v slow coach in style. Get a proper car and supercharge that!

Go buy yourself a Scangauge and play with that for a while :p

i know you can supercharge a celica for £2355 plus fitting and took about 3 days to fit at home getting it running and fueling properly was a complete ball ache and and i mean a complete ball ache, if you can source the equipment for a straight plug and play go for it.
but call me a stick in the mud but it my be cheaper and less STRESSFUL to just source FI engine.

Theres a extremely strong possibility that i can get my hands on an EATON s/charger off an new mini cooper s thats dun bout 300 mile and the guy will play about fitting it as well.

How about internals? if i keep the PSI down etc, get away with stocks?

Prob yr best bet Jimski is to look state side... If I remember right the yanks done blower kits for the earlier Golfs and stuff.. Or on the VW forums, someone may have a kit for sale, prob wouldn't be stupid money either now second hand. Would be a cool project.. :p

And blowers have no lag or need intercoolers and can sound nice too ... the one I had bolted on the 470bhp Weslake engine in my Rover V8 SDI sounded awesome :D

I feel it would be cheaper to drop a doner 1.8T in as every thing youd need would have to be custom built eg Intake mani etc etc.

Yeh that seems to be the general consensus, i thort i might be able to use stock internal intakes and manis and then use a low gain supercharger (use a 100bhp supercharger that will obviously then use 6bhp to run) therefore getting early gains etc

The only problem with blowers that itll take 40bhp to run it so you'll only see 60bhp ( ruff guess ) If you want more poke see the link below.

A common supercharger setup with no internal mods (pistons, rods) can raise hp by 60%, which means yes, a 100hp car will go to 160hp

Strong supercharger kits with intercoolers, cooling and lubrication systems, can manage even a bit more than 60 percent

The most important thing when supercharging/turbocharging a car is not the absolute hp number but mostly better engine behavior and efficiency: better power at mid and high rpm where modern economy engines score poorly, better acceleration overall, better average power through the rpm

I would like to see a +160hp supercharged Leon racing stock 180hp Cupras! :p

Who can't, my mates got about 4 of these.

It can be done, one of the guys has done it to is Ibiza MK2, but your talking, inlet, fueling, timming (poss), map, mounting, intercooler, oil lines, exhaust porb, airfilter and all the plumping and wiring that goes with all that stuff.

Good luck mate, but wouldn't recommend trying it.

trying to find info on supercharging,
how feasable is it on a 1.8T lump then? if i wanted to supercharge my LCR,is it a hard job?or would you recommend a bigger turbo instead? is it hard to supercharge a turbo?

Jabba have done alot of supercharging work on VAGs. worth ringing them.

can you have supercharged turbos? i thought it was one or the other?
