ok i was bored on ebay for a mate looking for a copper front grill etc. and there are 2 purple mk2 1.8 16v's (only one has pics though) saying it has 165bhp? HOW? running some stupidly high cams? (am sure its like 130-140bhp right?)

(i dunno if i can post the ebay link, so if i can let me know i'll chuck it up)

(apexi)lower sunspension

(supersprint) exhaust system

sport airflow and all filters

Haven't you played Forza Motorsport yet ? worth a good 50+bhp that lot :)

haha yeah i have mate (but i got a ps3, so more in Gran Turismo)

so "NA tuning 1" "NA tuning 2" haha

seriously i wanna know how on earth it has 165bhp? from a 1.8?

EDIT oh yeah "max speed 148mph"

you WHAT? i smell something....*sniff sniff* bull*BEEP*

i know, but 2 different adverts for the same engine said same? just curious!

that 142mph top speed cracked me up!

A generous rolling road will get you those figures! Can even have them printed as proof but doesn't mean there correct!!

Also the Ipod Shuffle thing has a pocket dyno! Gives some great results!

my standard one "showed" 145 bhp twice on different rollers.
9A bottom end would show nearer that mark, but that's cheating slightly.

i had 152mph last year (runway) and that was satnav indicated, 250rpm short of hitting the limiter

on a standard 16v box :D

could be done but would have to be in something REALLY light so the bhp/ton would be high as :)

Nope, weight has a negligible effect on top speed.

A lighter car will reach top speed sooner than a heavier car though, all other things being equal.

Increasing the power of the car can improve top speed provided it was aero limited before, i.e. would not reach the maximum engine speed in top gear.

well said!
hence the lotus elise having excellent 0-60's, but top speed isn't so high, yet a 2.5tonne bugatti reaches stupid numbers due to aero/power :)
