Driving my car this morning the car kept going sideways. I thought it was icy but when I got to my mates there was diesel dripping off the front bumper. On further investigations the diesel is leaking from the off side front cannister - is that the fuel filter? More specifically the black plug in the middle popped up and it looks like it's been leaking from there. I've clicked it back down but it still feels loose (and Ive got a 60 mile round trip to work tomorrow...). Should there be a clip on the top to stop it popping up?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated as Im bricking it about even driving home later!!

Cheers,

Jamesemt

Has it been serviced recently? My guess would be that it's not been put on correctly or just forgotten when the fuel filter was changed

No not recently - about 8k miles ago. I vented the tank at the last fuel up...could that have caused extra pressure?

There's specific conditions you shouldn't vent it in, But I cant remember if its very cold conditions.
Or very hot. Until someone can tell you it could be what's caused it.

Dont vent in hot conditions as deisel expands!

Yes there should be a clip on the black fuel return valve the shape of micky mouse's head.Try bending a wire coat hanger in to shape to keep it clipped down.

Healing vibes mate.
