mines also quite stelthy at the moment as being 2001 model to the untrained eye/ joe nobhead it looks like a standard leon as it's not got the my03 bumpers ect.

The best bit about pre facelift model, I usually get some 2@ on my back bumper thinking I'm just a chav with a peco backbox on, anyway, I've sometimes thought about an LCR, but by the time I'll want to change it our youngest will be ready for school so I'll probably just whip the wife into shape and send her out to work again and get a mk2 Cupra.

Another thought is, if you have £4-£5k, have you considered going big turbo? I'm no expert but you may see around 330bhp for that amount of cash, they are plenty of people on here who could guide you through the process.

I see this is turning into a snobbery thing with the LCR being the better car......

I think alot of comments come from people who havnt driven a sorted LC Jamie.

Didnt realise though that the lcr has a superior steering wheel. must get one. maybe i`ll corner better.

Both cars are brilliant tuning platforms, look at the modded lcs and lcrs and the vast majority have changed the same bits on both cars.

Something else to bear in mind is that a £2k LC with £2k of mods is still a £2k LC when it comes to selling time, might get a little bit on top for the mods but not a great deal, a £6k LCR is still a £6k LCR come selling time ( I know the cars will depreciate but its easier to illustrate)

Personally would I sell my LC to get an LCR, not at present as I couldnt spare the extra cash, if I had the cash then yes probably and then I'd remap that.

Get a tow bar mate, it instantly doubles this effect. :D
Actually don't because they look crap lol, but my car had it fitted when I brought it and I dont want to leave a gaping hole in the bumper so its staying put, but people do seem to see it and think your going to drive slow, get up your ass and then you do drive slow, right up to the point where you leave them for dead.

indeed, my thoughts entirely

but I like to be thought as the lesser vehicle, gives people a nice surprise when they disappear in my rear view mirror;)

not only that but LC's of my age are getting rare, or certianly are on here - I prefer to be in the minority

personally i'd rather have one of the very early X plate ones fully options loaded with full leather and dimming mirrors and auto wipers etc as i miss mine :(:(

plus for all the work I'd wanna do to the motor it would save in the long run anyway

but to balance the argument a bit both the My03 and the R do have a sense of style about them

;););) nothing quite like the way leather allows your whole body to move whilst cornering. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Its a shame they got stingy with the LCR interior.

Yes but gents we are talking about comparing stock car to stock car. To get the lc to same spec on internals and externals you talking a lot of money which can get into the thousands. I think it is worth the upgrade and with another 300 quid he has a 260bhp car. How much would he have to spend on the lc to get 260 plus all bells and whistles???

re read the thread mate.. OP was comparing modding up his lc or going for an lcr. it wasnt stock vs stock.

Having owned a Cupra, and 2 R's I'd say save your cash. Yes the LCR is a nice car, but stick some brakes on the Cupra and you won't really miss anything else.

A stock LCR feels ridiculously slow after a remapped Cupra, the smaller turbo on the cupra spools up much quicker.

Now if you don't own either go for the R, but I wouldn't trade up a modded cupra to an R again.

I thought that was exactly what Maz was saying; how much would you have to spend to get the LC up to LCR standard, and in which case, would it be more financially viable to just get the LCR. The two of you appear to be making the exact same point as far as I can see:confused:

Well you won't catch me swapping my LC for an LCR put it that way......

I think Jonjay is saying hes best off getting an LCR, that its worth spending 4k as its not just the power theres lots of other bits.

I think spending 2k on his current cupra would transform it enough.

Personally I think with the right touches an LC can look just as good as an LCR. But then I am biast....

Yeah, it all depends on what you want from it, but if you want an LCR, you'd might as well buy an LCR, rather than try to convert a standard LC to LCR. I have nothing against either, I'm just a bit of a snob and when I realised I could afford an LCR I stopped looking at LCs and bought an LCR.

Personally, I like the looks of the LCR and the power is fine for now. I like that it looks muscular, while others like that the LC (especially pre-face lift) is understated and gives others a surprise when you drop the clutch at the lights and roar off. It all depends on what you really want, but if you're considering switching to an LCR then I would suppose that you really want an LCR

Sorry if I wasn't clear as I been following the thread on the iPhone whilst on the move so didn't have the chance to write a full explanation.

Until I get home...for me having spent a massive amount of money on my car I know what an lc/fr is capable of when nodding. With carefully chosen mods you can easily get the lc to superior levels than an lcr but it does cost. The reason why I didn't sell my car and get an lcr is bar one being petrol and the other deisel I would have still done the same mods so there was little point in me doing the upgrade. For this gentlemen here I (not sure) think he doesn't want to spend monies we spent creating something special. I will try and explain more when I am back :)

edit: special comment is not meant in a snobbish or rude way at all.

My steering wheel hates you:D

Theres many ways of looking at this.
For me the cars are about affordable power and driving pleasure and then styling.
The Op asked how much better the Lcr was over throwing 2k at his Lc. It wouldnt be better from my point of view.

But if you think that the styling is miles better and feel you want that badge then theres no contest.....
.... buy a body kit:lol:

Each to their own.:)

Your right it is personal preference and there is no right and wrong answer as such.

Of course throwing 2k at a car can get a lot done and I am sure he will be pleased however will it stop at 2k? Will it be 2k plus a nice new bumpers, some nice new seats, new r32 steering wheel or some nice new alloys which makes it more like 3-4k? If he is disciplined then happy to stop there then i say stick with LC. If he wants a more complete package spend the extra and get a cupra r which doesn't really need much doing to it out the box.
