Certainly can! When i bought mine i was given a morrisons fuel voucher for £25, so shot that in, and it had a horrible flat spot in second gear.
Soon as i filled up with V Power again, it was fine . . . No idea what boost it was at, as i dont a gauge!

Yep, lower octane petrol is less resistant to detonation. It will therefore detonate too early in the cylinder causing the engine to "knock". The 1.8t engine has knock sensors which will see this and back of your boost and timing appropriate to prevent damage to the engine.
mate i have said this for ages, but there are some guys on here that say its completely false...skinflints that they are
V-power all the way!!! normal 95 made mine slower. These engine are designed to run on 98-99 octane fuel anyway. well worth the extra few pence i think.

i agree with you though, any performance car of any type should be using 99 fuel......too many people buy good cars with there heads in there a£$es..and refuse to fork out an extra £5 (over the course of a tank) for the good stuff, just because they are living in cookoo land and refuse to believe the 99 petrol is better for the engine...

Mine is calibrating its self on 99ron V power so i guess it will be alot better than the 95 ron i tried it on. Going to keep this in now as its calibrating its self as the battery been off for 2 months so its learning its parameters on 99 ron and hopefully will give good results. Just putting £5 in of v power wont show any effect as it will change its habbits throughout its drive cylcles, same as if 2 people drive, it can take a wile to re-adapt to how you drive The standard ECU is mapped for 98 ron as said in the fuel cap but there able to run on 95 aswell if 98 isnt available, the APR map with programmes has a 98 & 95 ron setting so you can change if you put 95 ron in, quite handy

Wasnt aiming it at you, was only saying for people, will take 1 - 2 tanks of jungle juice to get the benifit if you run it on diffrent fuel, also try to stick to one fuel station, i.e shell, bp etc, as mine is learning its self on shell it will stay on it now and when she goes on rolling road next month compleatly standard il soon see any benifits (apart from fact its de-catted) but everything else will be standard, then il put uprated diverter on and airfilter, and see what she puts out then.
always best to stick to the busiest fuel station also, as the fuel is constantly getting reoplaced..
Not even £5...if you had a 50 litre tank vpowers usually what 4p more expensive? so £2 a tank! nothing really unless your doing really high mileage
55 litre tank and the fuel round my way is around 7-8p more.....but yeh it really is pennies and i think redline magazine done a test and the engine was clean compared to mega clogging up with the 95 shite
Fuel doesnt go stale instantly, but after a month will start to slowly loose its goodness, one i use is one of busyest stations round here, i know what you mean though, if its been sat there for a month and hardly anyone uses it can start to loost freshness. Proper jungle juice from shell these days, used to be 97 and didnt really rate it. BP ultimate is just robbery and sainsburys is 97, Tesco is 99 but dont have it at tesco near me.
Dont forget better MPG too... so i doubt theres much difference even if it seems more expensive.
I always noticed when mine was filled with 95 RON. I wouldn't notice for a little while then i'd wonder why the car didn't feel quite right. Then i'd have to think back to the last fill up and remember I went for the cheap stuff.
As above given that the difference if a couple of quid a tank I just use V-Power now.
Will running 95 RON on a remapped car damage it? Or will it feel even worse than people are finding on non mapped cars?

Agree with you totally bret.
ive been using v-power in my lcr for 18 months now and since using it have seen much better performance over 95 and miles better MPG so it must of cleaned it out internally.
I think you need to always use it to see a difference not just the odd tank here and there as a treat for it wont do much.
and the extra fiver in the tank at every fill up is definatly worth it i never care how much it costs to fill up anyway!!
I drive it till the light comes on and then fill up to the top and pay for it, dont even look at how much it costs on the pump per litre!!
