Probably because the AMK and BAM engines never went to the US market so didn't have to pass the same emissions tests............

The plate actually replaces a valve which is bolted to the side of the cylinder head. This is where the secondary air is injected into exhaust port #4 (before the port leaves the head at the rear)

Ah sorry I assumed it went where the SAI is removed from.

Getting an error code sounds like a right pain though

For the improper flow error just use lemmi and lean out the warm up fueling (5% at a time until the code stops)
for the missing pump just use a resistor to the pump harness.

Code doesn't appear just from warm up. Code appears from system purging evap vapour when secondary air is run to keep the mix from being rich.

Not a pain really 5 mins with vag-com once a month or so and its gone, it also gives me a change to wipe my ever present "boost leak check DV" code one day i WILL find it.

I 'think' once or twice and it just gives the code, but eventually it puts the eml on.

1st The code comes when the sai fan goes on and the ecu sees rich mix.
2nd how the evap connects to the sai??? Their hoses are totally different.
