The plate actually replaces a valve which is bolted to the side of the cylinder head. This is where the secondary air is injected into exhaust port #4 (before the port leaves the head at the rear)
For the improper flow error just use lemmi and lean out the warm up fueling (5% at a time until the code stops)
for the missing pump just use a resistor to the pump harness.

Not a pain really 5 mins with vag-com once a month or so and its gone, it also gives me a change to wipe my ever present "boost leak check DV" code one day i WILL find it.
