You cycle to work from cumbernauld! Oh and thanks for the tip, will never do a u turn there again :). I work in clairmont gardens but usually park my car up near Kelvingrove Art Gallery as its free!

No No, I've been behaving lately... :p I did however, like most poeple walking and cycling along the Broomielaw get distracted by this girl every morning! :lol:

Sadly no, I'll leave the long distance riding to Lance Armstrong... I get the train from Croy to Queen Street and cycle from there, beats taking the car by about 15 mins.
And it actually takes more time to turn around in our car park than it does to drive 300 yards up the road and go round the round-about (at the entrance to the BBC and the Science Centre) as 9 times out of 10 you get stuck waiting for the lights - which take about 3 minutes to change!
I was lucky I actually got a space that morning (8am - usually full by that time) if I can't get parked on that access road I end up parking on Govan road itself, they didn't biuld us a big enough car park, 400 + work in our building and we only have 112 spaces... [:@]

Bike Issues

So This is my bike....

I've had it for 9 years now and recently things have started to go wrong... so I took it to Dales for some repairs... £265 later...

Parts list...
  • HG50 (11 -32) 9 Speed Cassette
  • PC951 SRAM Chain
  • UN54 BS 73-113mm Square Bottom Bracket
  • S3 Silver Sealed Headset
  • Chain rings cleaned
  • Hub Service
  • 1 Pack Bearings
  • Cone RHS XT/LX/Deore Freehub
  • 6 x Outer SP41 for 1.2mm Cables
  • 2 x Inner 1.2mm Cables
  • 36 x Silver Spokes
  • SG351 Wheel RIM
  • 1 Pack of Brass Nipples
  • Labour £40

Work carried out...
  • Fitted new chain and cassette
  • Cleaned chainset and both mechs in parts washer
  • Fitted new bottom bracket as old unit was worn with play
  • Reset gears front and rear
  • Fitted new inner gear cables and outer rear cable fitted
  • Fitted new headset as old unit was worn out
  • Serviced rear hub as the axle was badly bent
  • Fitted new RHS cone and 1/4" bearings
  • Rear wheel hand built

I get the rear wheel back on Thursday after it was been rebuilt, the rebuild with all new parts apart from the hub and axle is about £80 inc. labour which is about £20 less than a new wheel!

I thought cars where expensive!! :lol: Hopefully this list of parts should last about another 9 years... :confused:

Hmmmm That is rather a lot of money for what is basically simple stuff! Labour at only £40 as well suggests that you have been taken for a ride (excuse the pun)

Is there anyway to query what you have been charged?

I'm sure my invoice has all the prices on it, i'll check when I get home.
The rear wheel build didn't happen as I had a 32 spoke wheel and they only had 36 spoke rims - ended up just buying another wheel and keeping my hub.
Funny thing is now I'm stuck with a Deore Hub which has just been given a complete rebuild only two weeks ago and had a new axle fitted... know anyone that wants it? :D

cheap as chips. i have spare vinyl if you want a hand,just use my vinyl? up too you. dont know how long it will last tbh, dont know how the weather and washing the car will affect it....end of the day its just vinyl and can be removed and redone if need be
 
Now as we all know the suspension on the Mk4 is pretty poor, I had my wishbone bushes changed last September so have been on the car for 8-9 months now and have only covered around 8,000 miles since changing them. For the last 5-6 months I've been taking the train/bike to work so the car has only been used 3/4 days a week to cut down on costs. These bushes where bought from Seat and compared to the ones that came off the where indeed "uprated" as there was more webbing in them compared to the ones that came off the car.

The two videos below show just how much play I have on my left front wheel, I've tried the same test on both front wheels and there is no play at all on the drivers side, so my question is this:- why on earth does the LHS move so much? And why not the RHS?

I alos think this to be a safety issue as the other day I was doing about 20mph on a cobbled street and braked normally to stop for the give way, now due to the rough road and the fact that my left front wheel was "bouncing" around so much the ABS kicked in and I struggled to stop...:wtf:

The car was parked on level ground and the handbrake was on and the car was alos parked in gear so there was no chance it could roll for any other reason.

I have checked the bushes themselves and both have still got all the webbing all intact.
I will be changing these again to Cupra bushes or solid equivilant when I have the money ...
