Cupra has a deathwish - please help!

Hey guys,

This one is completely doing my nut in, my cupra keeps offering itself up to be stolen.

Bit of history here: when I first purchased the car I was having an issue with the car unlocking itself and the windows rolling down at random.

I put it down to the massive water leaks in the front doors, fixed those and the issue went away. Until now.

It's doing it while parked on an inclined driveway at a friends place in a rather... dodgy bit of Birmingham. It's never done it at home, usually happened while it was in a dodgy area and it rained.

This morning one of the house occupants went out to work at 7am, came back in 30s later to tell me the windows had rolled down while he stood there. Went out, locked it back up and it did the same thing 10 minutes later. In sheer frustration I disconnected the cars battery and locked the car manually. Wouldn't have such an issue if it was doing it at home, but it just seems to want to be stolen.

I could do with some help diagnosing this as I'm about to set the b*stard on fire. The interior has been dry for weeks and it doesn't look like it rained heavily last night, just a bit damp out there...

I think bur not quiet sure this is caused by a dadgry lock switch mate I know there was a similar thread a while back have a search and see what comes up but I know domaines had this before

Haha, not very pinchable mechanically locked without a battery!

It's not actually a bad bit in Stetchford, just reminds me a bit of living in Manchester where things would go missing if left unlocked!

Hmm, is it possible to read the lock status in VAGcom, I have the full genuine lead, would be good to read it and give the door lock a belt to see if it flashes lock/unlock!

its when it starts nipping in the house for the keys and swinging em round the aerial you wanna worry lol then it really wants to leave! sure its not called herby haha quite possibly the maddest problem iv read about so far, not that this is any help to you but i hope you get it sorted mate, sounds like a nightmare

Only Leon i've seen in stetchford is a Yellow Cupra, is that yours?

Stetcford It's a rough area no doubt, I wouldn't leave my car doors open there

Nah, mines a nondescript 2002 model in silver, the only distinguishing thing about it is that someone put S3 alloys on it, looks a bit odd I guess!

it is possible to see the lock status and door latch status in vag com. in the central convenience module under measuring blocks. can see it for all 4 doors and boot

Ahh, I think I've found the prime suspect gentlemen!

Came back to reading last night, left the battery on just to check and not surprisingly all the windows were open this morning.

Closed it all up locked and unlocked everything, and tried to lock/unlock with the key.

No joy, the key doesn't do anything electrically so I think we've found the culprit - moves the lock mechanically and doesn't set the alarm off!

How is the key sensing done? Is there an electrical device on the back of the key, or is it all part of the lock mechanism?
