Just round the corner.
Though I'd change me plugs and oil today, as nothing special is happening.

First 3 plugs looked fine, got to the fourth..........Oh dear! As soon as I took the coil pack off I could see the corrosion, and on the coil pack itself was what looked like water. The smell was more like that of the header tank. Certainly didn't smell of either oil or petrol.

My idling is getting really lumpy, but when driven she feels fine.

Has anyone else had this???

Water does get around the coil packs when there is no engine cover to divert it away, suppose its one of those things if you have a induction kit fitted.
 
Woah doesn't look good. Hope it's nothing serious though mate. I keep meaning to change my spark plugs and check everything to make sure it's ok.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along shortly.
 
Identical problem that i've had here. Water ingress due to a lack of engine cover. Just goes to show how much water actually gets in! Just replace coilpack and plug, it'll be fine.

Although finding a permanent solution for the water problem is more difficult!

From reading threads from others on this site it would appear that this becomes an ongoing problem where you end up constantly changing coil packs/plugs. :blink:

Unless I have misread many of the other threads :D


All depending how much water is actually getting in...some have just a small amount every now and again, others every time it rains. Once replace the car is fine!

If persistent an engine cover of some sort is needed, or to totally seal the entry holes beneath the scuttle panel!
 
Strangely enough it has nothing to do with the engine cover. I recently changed plugs for five cupra's and four had of them had one or more rusty coilpacks (and all had the standard cover still in place.
there is a lot of water running under the hood of a leon and water can get in the strangest places....
 
Just checked pot 4 again, and water is still getting in. Has anyone found a solution to this???
From what I've read on other forums, having the engine cover or not makes little difference.

I'll have to try and find some heat resistant sheeting to put around to make a better seal.:(
 
Well after drying out the chamber, and coil pack.Them spraying WD40 to help, went out with come of the boys and she started to misfire. Luckily Nibbles had a spare one on his car. Big thanks mate!
Been advised to put grease around the rubber, to try and stop the ingress.
 
Its all to do with the scuttle panel clips , if they fail then water builds up in the bonnet insulation and it gathers and drips into the engine then travels and rests in the cylinder coil packs.
If you look on the sound insulation you will see white marks where the water comes through or if its really bad there will be mould.

I took the sound deadening off, as soon as I got it. But will look at the scuttle panel clips.
