• Hey Guest💡👉 We have recently launched our new Dealer Directory and review service Find out more now
Imagine these cars at 100k we will need an oil tank aswell as a fuel tank and have them fed like a drip you get in hospital they will be using oil like fuel Haha bit like a 2 stroke. I think vag need to sort it out as its such a great car otherwise economical incredibly fast and cheap to insure tax etc

Mines currently covering the drive in oil, wish i'd never bought it.

Daft as it may sound - leaks are better news. They can easily be found and fixed, filter sump plug, seal. It is where it disappears to be burned in the engine that is more of a concern.

Mine is going in again this afternoon to have the oil drained and weighed. See what happens from there. Dealer was rather concerned at my consumption as it has not settled down in 12,00 miles

i have had my boc for around 6 weeks now and gave it a whole egnine oil top up (1 litre) twice :\ even thought i have done 5000 miles in it should it be drinking this much ???

How many miles have you driven in the car? you say you have had it 6 weeks and done 5k miles, surley this can't be right....?

Also maybe it's time to consider how much people may be pushing these engines :)

My thoughts exactly. Brings it back to the running in question too. The idea of thrashing it from day one does not sit well with me, but I am an old f*rt!

I ran mine in as per any car that I have had from new. took it easy up to the first 5000 miles not pasting the bejesus out of it and red lining every gear. Did not use sport until nearly on the 5000, dont like it much as it just seems to paste the arse out of the engine.

Went into the dealers today. Dipped by them and topped up, I have to dip every 100 miles for 500 miles and record how much it has gone down by. They will then have it back in and do a compression test etc and see where we go from there. They are loathe to change the engine but the work shop manager said if it has to be then it has to be.

He also said my mods will have no affect on consumption (In writing please)
Forge re circ BOV and induction kit. Revo stage 1.

they had it in for the last software upgrade and now Im Revo less anyway until I get an install re done again. So its been virtually standard since June

PS Follow Ranu's posts he openly admitted he caned the arse out of his car.:D

I agree but then how do you explain motorcycle engines !! - most of them are flat out from day one.

Typical 1100cc bike engine is pushing 170hp.

Mine regularly sees the high side of 10K rpm and doesnt touch oil between services @ 4000 miles

The engine is only ever run on semi synthetic oil but is allowed to warm up before playing.

Bring back the TEMP GAUGE !!! - worst thing they ever took off the car.

anybody remember having to run an engine in?
part throttle, low loads etc for first 1k, engine oil & filter changed then steadily build up to 'race' mode.

thought not, we now expect to use 'em straight out of the box.

Yep, I remember running cars in and I remember signs in the rear window saying "running in please pass".

I read on t'internet about these engines, they say that the 1.4 twin charger engine suffers with poor injectors that don't have a good spray pattern. this causes excess fuel washing the cylinder boars clean. This causes excess wear to the boars and rings, this causes excess oil consumption.

thats def not right mate - we are replacing an engine in a cupra at the moment for using alot less than that. the guys are right tho its a long winded process and there will need to be data collected, the way we have to do it is weigh the oil, then make sure its at the right level, send u on ur merry way for a few hundred miles and then weigh again. hopefully this helps, just bear in mind u could potentially be without ur car for a while if seat approve the replacement of engine parts or a complete engine, and being 100% honest......they are never the same once they have been ripped apart. id push for a new engine if u can mate. to put it in perspective my cupra still has its original 1litre oil top up in the boot, i'm on just over 20k and never 'ran it in'....im like anyone who bought a cupra. i thrashed the granny out of it...so dont listen to that total crap haha! all the best mate

Just a general question for people with the excessive oil usage or for people who have already had the engine changed.
How soon did you notice the problems? Had you done a certain amount of miles or had the car changed how it felt to drive?
Reason I am asking is that my Boc ( March/April 2010) has sub 5K miles on it at present and does spend long periods of time not been driven.
For example I don’t want to find out that it happens over 10K miles and my car to be 3 years old and out of warranty.
So far it hasn’t used a single drop of oil since January and hopefully it will stay like that too.

The manager did say that they will drain and weigh it after the 500 miles as well. TBH I was without the car for 12 weeks the last time so if it happens again no worries there Im used to it. I would want a complete lump as if the bores are worn I really dont want a new cylinder block and original ancillaries, I want a new lump including all parts not a mish mash of parts

When i changed the engine in my FR i went and saw it when it came :) it was a clean new block fresh from the factory :) it was exciting to see to say the least... if the company decides to change your engine it comes as a fresh block only but the peripherals stay the same... i did have certain worries though so i had them change the mechanichal supercharger as well when we ordered the block

Just dropped mine off into seat for a check over and to get the updates etc done. Apparently there is a new ecu unit out that needs to be fitted?
