Can you not drill the cast arm, then bolt a small tapped block onto it ?

And surely it doesn't matter if you use the LC ball joints and nuts rather than LCR studs and nuts, they're basically the same thing ?

I suppose I might be able to but I think I'd prefer to go with a full conversion or none at all, for handling purposes where the drop link bolts to the suspension must be an advantage or why would they have changed it?

Also the handling of any standard model mk4 golf platform car with uprated suspension (coilovers etc) still wouldn't handle as well as a LCR, TT, S3 or R32 with the same uprated suspension and this must surely be down to the revised lower arms AMF ARB setup?

The hubs sit lower, making the wishbone angle less. making the bushes ware less, with the lower ride height...i think

How are you with welding cast material?

The only cast wishbones that can be made to fit with the stock LC ARB and droplinks are ones from very early TTs, they have a blind area of extra material which can be drilled and tapped to replicate the pressed steel wishbone arrangement.

Nope LCR and LC have different balljoint setups.

LC balljoint slides into the end of the wishbone, then bolts/ flat nuts hold it in place.

On the LCR the balljoint has studs on it, they pass through the slots in the end of the wishbone and are held by nuts.

Yeh I thought I'd read that somewhere but was t going to say anything as I might have been wrong lol, thanks for the extra info though.

Almost :)

The actual hubs sit at the same height, the LCR hub carriers have more material between the hub and the balljoint interface, therefore the wishbones sit more level.

with the "shorter" hub carriers on the LC/Mk4 the wishbones point upwards towards the hub, making the car prone to bumpsteer when lowered and actually making the handling worse.

The centre of gravity rises due to this change in geometry which then worsens the handling.

On an LCR a drop of around 20-25mm is ideal to keep the wishbones level to start with.

Here is a pic of an early and then later cast TT wishbone, you can see the left wishbone has the additional material for drilling/tapping (protruding lump on the front edge of the wishbone)

It would originally have been used to connect the ARBs like the LC has them, with short droplinks and the looping ARB. :)

There are technically 3 different wishbones fitted to the TT.

1) Pressed steel with ARB mount a la LC and non-R32 mk4

2) Early cast wishbone with ARB mounting area and small front bush

3) Late cast wishbone without ARB mount and with large front bush

The later cast wishbone was introduced as part of the modifications following a few high-speed accidents (inc rear spoiler, ESP etc). The larger front bush induced more understeer thereby making it less likely to swap ends.
