Hi Andy

I defo have 3 yrs servicing I got a letter giving a break down on what's included in the 3 yrs servicing contract. ( oil, filters etc ). I sure they said 1yr or 10,000 miles.

I got the the letter re servicing definitely says 10k or a year. Which ever comes first. I'm half way there now.

I was told 1 year, 10,000 when I bought it. But equally, it looks like 20,000, 2 year in the setup in the car.

I was told 1yr/10k when I picked mine up. But the car is set for 2yr/20k. Hmm. Do I go for a service plan or not.

I know on the Seat website it says it depends upon your driving routine. Does the car automatically detect that and amend when it says the service is due or does it need to be set manually by Seat? It sounds like all dealers are saying 12 months, 10,000 miles. They probably couldn't afford for it all to go to two year servicing.

When I bought mine I enquired about the service intervals and the dealer said ALL UK Leons were factory set to 12 month/10000 miles and were changed at the dealership if the customers usage indicated a higher mileage interval would be better.

When I bought the Service Plan they asked my annual mileage and the price came back from Seat taking it into account. No free plan when I bought but at under £11 a month for 34 payments it should save me over £113 compared to the prices on the showroom menu and website. Its also fixed thus I am protected against any price rises that are inevitable over 3 years.

Just make sure you get the Seat plan through VW finance. Dealer schemes are not a bargain because you cannot use another dealer if the seller cocks up plus you loose your money if the dealer goes bang. With the Seat scheme you can get the car serviced at any Seat dealer.

When I ordered mine I was told it can be set on either 10k or 20k intervals...Apparently the 20k service is more expensive than the 10k one, but not quite as much as 2x10k. This seems to go along with the info on SEAT's website
(http://www.seat.co.uk/content/uk/brand/en/services-and-accessories/service/Service-and-MOT.html).

I asked them to put the details in writing for me before I collect the car so I can choose which I want.

@skidpan - can you give some more info on your service plan? Can you get it without buying the car on finance? What's included/excluded? Thanks

Just ask for it, no need for finance. It includes the first 3 services just like you would buy individually.

I have done some research on the Service Plan only, the service plus maintenance plan and the service plus maintenance and tyres plan.
Here it is:
Service Maintenance & Tyres
Year 3 Service only £10.99 Service and Maintenance £15.6 Service Maintenance & Tyres £21
Year 4 Service only £11.04 Service and Maintenance £20.52 Service Maintenance & Tyres N/a

Fixed Price Service Costs
Year 1 £169.00
Year 2 £189.00
Year 3 £129.00
Brakes £49.00
Year 4 £249.00

Year 1-3 Cost £536.00
Year 1-4 Cost £785.00

Monthly Payments 3 Years £10.99 4 Years £11.04
12 Months 3 Years £131.88 4 Years £132.48
Years 3 Years £395.64 4 Years £529.92

3 year Difference Plan vs PAYG Per Term £140.36 Per Year £46.79 Per Month £3.90
4 year difference Plan vs PAYG Per Term £255.08 Per Year £63.77 Per Month £5.31

As you can see:
1 The sweet spot is Service only plan. IMHO service plus maintenance adds items which should be covered under warranty.
2 The 3 year plan can be added to your 3 year 0% finance deal. The 4 year plan cannot for obvious reasons.
3 I was surprised how little taking the 4th year added to the cost especially when the cost of the 4 Year service is a hefty £249.
4 As has been stated, the prices are locked at the start of the Plan . I don not believe the dealers servicing costs will remain unchanged over 4 years and anticipate they will increase by at least inflation.
5 So I went with a 4 Year separate finance plan on a servcie only plan hoping to save £255 plus any increase in charges

Hope this helps those considering the same.
