I got this today on about a 60 mile round trip which included 60mph motorway driving and very heavy stop start traffic in town... and I may have had to show a vxr who was boss coming out of the petrol station... Whoops ha

Cupra 280 DSG in "Eco" mode

I've had it up to 36mpg when tootling around with air con off . To be honest ....it's not much fun in a car with 276 horses under your right boot in this humid weather.

This is very true! ha

I was quite impressed though, handy for when im half asleep and driving to work in the mornings!

Other than that's its farrrr too tempting to just plant your foot to the floor :D

There's an Eco mode?!

I only found the eco mode in the individual settings a week or so ago. Ive done 2500 miles in mine so far and we are averaging 28-29 since day 1. We do a lot of short journeys and town driving though. Its about 5-8MPG better than my MK2 Cupra doing the same sort of journeys.

I was kidding. :D

Normal D mode changes up early, too, so how does Eco mode differ? It doesn't give you irritating driving tips on the DIS, does it? That would get on my nerves!

Main diff is the inertia mode, when you lift off the gas instead of engine braking, the revs drop to idle and the car rolls so the mpg goes up. Have tried it in town driving and it takes a bit getting used to, but the mpg went up to 30 for a cold start and 7m drive to work, it was 27 before. My overall with some spirited driving is 32.5.:D

Are these all dashboard measurements or calculated mpg (from fuelpump to fuel pump).
With my 1P there was a lot between dash measurements and real world Mpg.
With the new I hand no chance to calculate yet. What I do know is that the speedo of the mk3 of a mate says 129 km/h while my STI and gps say 120 km/h (both with stock wheels/tyres).

Mine is calculated from fill up to fill up, but the computer is pretty accurate, only 1 mpg diff to date. and the speedo was only 2 mph over at 70 mph when I checked that with my mates portable sat nav. Don't think the Mk3 sat nav shows speed, if it does I ain't found it yet.

I haven't found it too. I got a separate unit (I allways use it with different cars to check actual speed (and prevent speed tickets), with a highway max speed of 120 km/h and the gps on 120 mph the sti read exactly 120 and the cupra 128 (same goes for the driven distance). My 1p did the same (which doesn't say all cupra's do this).
The new cupra is way more fuel efficient than the old (although it's years back since I drove a stock 1p). the last time we drove all under the same circumstances (at allowed speed) the sti did 22.5, the stage 3 1P approx. the same and the 3d gen cupra 27 mpg.

Just passed 1000miles in my manual Cupra so still early days.

Am 3 tanks in. 1st tank a bit of a write off due to the driving style employed for the few days after delivery...

Tank 2 lasted just short of 350 miles. I would guess that approximately 45litres of standard unleaded got me this far. This was proper mixed driving - several commutes of 13miles on 30mph limits and motorways and a couple of much longer motorway drvies.

Tank 3 lasted 290 miles. This was almost entirely in town driving and due to being on holiday, there were several day-long periods when the car didn't move.

I would ignore the all too common comments in these forums in recent months that hint that someone would be stupid to consider the Cupra if fuel economy concerns you. Going into it with open eyes and realising that there are much more frugal cars and much less frugal cars is all I think you should do. As an example - even though it's still very much in the loosening up period - on the above figures, I would estimate that the Cupra is in the area of 25% more fuel efficient than my outgoing Astra VXR.

I used to get 27/28 mpg in my brand new Biza GTI (1996), which I had for about 4 years, my first SEAT, no matter if you drove carefully or thrashed it, still the same. Only 130 BHP, no ABS, no Aircon, nowt, how times have changed, 32.5 in the 280 seems fantastic in comparison.:D:D:D:D:D

Blimey, people are driving gently. I'm on my fourth tank of petrol and have only done about 800 miles! I reckon I'm getting about 270 miles per fill, despite the pooter saying 335 miles on the range every time I fill up.

Not gently, just a bit careful, combination of Comfort, Eco and Sport, no Cupra yet. Have topped 110mph, and mostly kept the revs below 4500 rpm, with the odd bursts to red line for overtakes (when oil warmed up). still running in you see (don't let's start that debate again) roll on the 1000 mile mark, then I will progress up the revs.:D:D:D

Erm..., think ours may have a bit of a drink problem. Last fill was 45.06 litres for 263 miles, I make that 26.53mpg. To be fair, that involved no motorway running and I didn't even know there was an eco mode!

Will be going on some longer runs soon so I think I can easily improve that. Computer says 28 point something on the long term.

You can choose ECO for the engine and aircon in the individual setting of the driver profile (Cupra button) I set this up for going to work in the built up areas along with sport in the DCC, Cupra for the steering and Cupra for the diff.:D

270 miles with how many miles left on the read out?

Surely not going to 0?
