Not in one day but had a busy week, replacement smic and map sensor, cleaned TB, cleaned temp sensor, new coils, service, new brake pads, tyres, bulbs, dump valve, tracking, MOT, fitted a new baby seat, and sun shields, heko wind deflectors and a vw cig lighter torch then cleaned my leon and my polo Gti and put the polo up for sale

Haha well cracked the o/s tail gate light on my LC reversing into a wheelie bin then smashing off the wing mirror on my partners ibiza 2 mins after so far from in the best of moods with my self atm note to self don't try to move cars around when full of cold and on meds again period!!!!

Washed and polished yesterday. Fastest hand wash ever as ".. there's a hole in my bucket.." then drove 30 miles to work today and it's filthy again. Rock on summer.

Anyway,

Today met up with Bouncerbeater, he carried out some scanning and logging just to check how is everything. All looked good .
And after I decided to do n249 by pass, still not sure did I do it right but car feels more responsive even feels that it pulls better and no lights so hope I did everything correctly.

Milltek Exhaust Rattle

I fitted a Milltek exhaust to my Mk1 Leon Cupra a few weeks ago with no problems, until the other night when I had passengers in the back and it started making a racket, like it was vibrating against the car. The passengers aren't heavy, and the noise wasn't constant, only when idle at lights.

So I went under and found the rear axle to be the problem. The noise didn't sound like the pipe was hitting the axle, more like the axle pushed the pipe up so it was touching the heat shields.

I undid the clamps and tried to move the pipe, but it's too limited to make any big gap, probably gained a few mm. The exhaust is already sitting snug and there's not much room to lift it up at the hangers. The car has standard springs fitted too.

My first option is to limit the amount of passengers to one. Or I'm considering cutting a groove into the axle.

Any suggestions?

Yeah, Mr MOT man would love that! I think I just need to play around adjusting the pipe, get the axle pipe as high as it will go. It needs to go forward slightly so the axle fits in the groove better - not easy with no room for adjustment at the middle hanger near the cat.

I did see on a golf forum that someone cable tied some sort of rubber sound proofing around the axle so when the exhaust rubbed on it the sound would be so noticeable.

Dont modify the axle or you're fooked

You could try an exhaust mount of an Cupra R, stey are more sturdy and a bit shorter than the LC180 variant.

Thanks for the advice. I think it's sorted now - I adjusted the axle pipe by pulling it out of the back box and getting it as high as possible.
I would suggest to anyone fitting an exhaust to look at the heat shield above the axle, because there's more room if it was pushed up more.

I've got a bigger gap now of about an inch.

How did you modify that mount? My rear silencer sits too low and I need to raise it up an inch or so. Is there a rear mount too that's shorter?

Yes, the Cupra R mount. Its a bit shorter than the LC180 one.

This is how I did it:
-Grab the old mount
-Grab a drill and drill away the upstanding edges on the plate of the exhaust mount (see pic below). On both sides obviously

-Grab a bolt which fit through the hole
-Place an exhaust rubber
-Seal it with a nut or 2

Search the correct part number and search for it on eBay. I've used the EXH002

So you mean the rear silencer rear mount is shorter on a LCR? I've got LCR so there isn't a shorter one available.
