Hey guys here is the start of my progress thread am looking forward to your views, once I get started.

Started driving life in a Vauxhall corsa c sri, ok for a little first car I had it for many years.
Sold the corsa and moved up the vauxhall ladder to the Astra G 1.8 Sri.

After a few years with the astra I needed a diesel, and wanted to take a step up in the car ladder. I heard good things with the mk1 cupra TDI for tuning and I love the look of them so decided to go out and buy one so saved some money up sold the astra and now I'm the proud owner of one. Here it is.

Can't wait to start the modding.

The car didn't come in the best of conditions when purchased. It has two spots of rust which was not said in the advert but as I travelled far to get the car I decided to knock him down on the price, one of the rust spots is on the drivers wheel arch which is quite bad so may be looking for replacement front wing and there is another spot on the roof which is small like it's been chipped by a stone, it's right where the windscreen meets the roof. Any suggestions on best way to solve this would be much appreciated.

I have plans for the car which are as follows.

Tuning:
Egr blank.
Exhaust setup.
Then a remap.

Will be doing cosmetic things along the way have done a few minor things like pressed plates and white led number plate bulbs, front and rear wipers. Went for the skoda fabia rear wiper which looks ten times better than the standard metal one. will take pics when rain stops lol.

Cars booked in for the windows to be tinted next week.
here are a few pics of the little things I have added to car. And then some pics of the rust on the car which I am looking into resolving fast!

Pressed plates. (Old ones were so perished would fail MOT for sure)

I also had the door seal problem bad on drivers side but have redone the seal and it's drying out just smells bad but hopefully that will go eventually.
As for the rust what is the best options for preventing it from getting worse while I source a fix as I've not had the car long and am just finding my feet with it all.

Easiest fix is to treat it with something like Kilrust. Paint it on to convert the rust to a solid surface and prevent the rust penetrating further into the bodywork.

Sand or scrape back the paint first so you're getting to all the rust.

It's a good temp fix but eventually you'll need to get the panels properly spray painted to get back that new car paintwork.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks for the reply. Am looking at getting another front wing for sure, just the roof may be the problem as it between the windscreen so could be really fiddly.

Few little things arrived for me.

Wind deflectors.

And windows been tinted but it's to dark for the pic so will post soon.

Here's a pic of the tints, it's dark smoke. Excuse the very very dirty car, work and weather have not helped.

Also went to the scrap yard and found a stubby aerial on a car so thought it would do for mine.

Little update.

Well since the cold weather has been my car has felt a little ill. It absolutely killed my battery just struggled so much to start, the car was alarming at 5am! Then the EML came on to stay.
Had the car plugged in and was thrown four codes, two to do with the engine coolant sensor, one camshaft position sensor and last of all internal control module ROM test error (summit like that). The guy who I got to plug in the car said ecu was on its way out straight away and said for £200 he would sort it, I decided to take the codes away and bring them to the forum and the helpful people on here gave me advice on what to do first which I'm glad I listened to as the car is all sorted now so thanks to the guys who gave me advice.
So sorting out the car by a battery change and engine coolant sensor sorted it all out (lost shed loads of coolant mind haha). Have had it plugged in since and nothing :D
Also the rust on the roof was not as bad as first thought. It was the slightest of surface rust and I mean I gently wet and dry sand paper and it was straight back to alloy metal so have touched it up with a touch up kit which looks ok but may wrap my roof to get it looking all smooth and matching. Just got to put on my other front wing to replace the rusty one and all sorted on that front.:D

Some pics of stuff I've done inbetween problem.

Heko wind deflectors.

Also while I had the car up I saw this pipe. What is this pipe? And should it look like this or not? To me it shouldn't.

Pipe is circled.

Sorry if pics aren't the best, it just looks to me as if the join of the pipe looks like it's worn and coming apart.

Hi Matt, that pipe is commonly known as the 'pancake' pipe and runs from the turbo to the intercooler. It does get a bit rusty looking due to its location.
A few folk on here, including myself, have replaced it with the petrol version which is a little bigger

Ok cheers for the reply.
It just looks to me that the join of the pipe connection nearer to the intercooler was coming apart. If this was the case would it cause any problems? I'm not the best mechanically minded sorry still learning.

It doesn't look like it's coming apart, you would know if it was as there would be no boost and a loud chattering noise - believe me I know as mine popped off and boy do you get a twitchy arse!!!!!:cartman::whistle:
Oh and that oil around the joint is very common on these cars.
