I Finally have an update on my blessed car.
It had it's brake master cylinder replaced yesterday, but unfortunately when tested, the brakes were still binding once warm. The wheels were apparently moving more freely than before & can now be turned by hand, unlike before, but now they are suspecting the abs module.
They are going to look at it again next week & brainstorm possible ideas, & from what I've read there are a few more hydraulic pressure tests they can try & the push rod may need adjusting. The garage boss was very decent & apologetic, so I feel somewhat better about it. However, the expense of an abs module to be sent, tested, fixed & refitted is looking to be £400+, which is busting my budget for other things that might be needed for it's MOT.
If I listened to my head, I'd cut my losses & call it a day, but my heart is still set on getting it roadworthy.
I'll see what happens next week & take it from there, but my optimism is waning, along with my bank account. 😞

Still cheaper than running a newer car as daylight running headlights 800 quid , locks 1k and so on and at least you no the history of your car and when you do get it back there’s allot you can do your self

I don't understand how the abs module is related to «The wheels were apparently moving more freely than before & can now be turned by hand, unlike before» - it seems more the seized or rusted brake pads carrier.

I don't want to give it up, it's my pride & joy, but I don't know how much money I can keep spending to get it off the starting block. I have to run two other cars in my household & even though they are standard, my Ibiza being a 1.2tdi Copa, they are quite easy & relatively cheap to look after, just massively boring.
I know I will give it another chance, I just need some light at the end of the tunnel. (That or a bank loan 😅).

I didn't think it was the abs either, but I've now had three garages say that, so i don't know what to think. I read last night, that if crud had been pumped through when the brake lines were first installed, it could have wrecked the seals or damaged the sensitive solenoid valves, although I don't know if that would affect all 4 wheels? They are all binding so the problem is brake fluid not returning & pressure building without any release.
If anyone has any other ideas, I'm open to all suggestions 😏

i think it makes sense it being the abs module tbh, if the calipers are free, and its had a new master cylinder and bled well then theres really nothing else it can be. it could be trapped air in the module putting pressure in one or more of the internal valves causing the pistons to be constantly pushed out hence the hard to turn the wheels, it could be that by bleeding the master cylinder has helped free it up slightly and they can now turn easier but if theres still air in the module it needs the proper precedure to get it out either with vcds or by another tool that can open the valves when requested. the only bit thats wierd is the only happening when hot, but if the module itself is fooked who knows it could just be going on the blink when heat gets into it.

Really sorry to hear this mate. Such a weird problem being all 4 wheels. It could be the pushrod or possibly even a fault with the servo assistance. When the brakes are binding, they could try pulling the brake booster hose off of the servo and seeing if that causes it to release, if so it could be the servo putting some sort of pressure on the system. Seems unlikely, but worth ruling out before they go sending off your ABS unit.

Edit have they also checked that the brake pedal itself is fully returning, and there isn't something causing it to stick, like the brake pedal switch or the wiring etc? Just trying to think outside the box a bit.

Can't you measure the real speed of each wheel during driving with VCDS? With cold start and then at 90ºC. Maybe one of the wheel sensor is defective and when hot it sends a bad signal (like wheel slow speed) and that triggers the ABS.

Thanks mate. I'm just getting impatient, haven't seen my car for weeks & my hopes of taking it out this summer is beginning to look less likely.
I just need a breakthrough & that will will boost my enthusiasm again.

Changed the left hand side charge pipe to intercooler pipe to a silicone one. What a PITA. Simple job ruined by the hose clips Creations Motorsport supplies. So stiff you need your entire strength to turn the screw, which is impossible for the bottom left one because room is so limited. And then you end up chewing the metal.
Went for a test drive and it popped off (which is like someone putting the handbrake on), so ended up putting the old original hose clip back on.

installed the phenolic space today and put on my newly painted rocker cover and inlet manifold, got my mate to 3d print me off a dipstick holder too.
just need to give the engine bay a good clean now and that will be me done with that. although i could be doing with some form of heatshield for the air filter if anyone knows where i can get one, ramair dont sell them seperately.

Is that a 3D printed dipstick holder? It doesn't seems plastic.... more metal alike ;)

the injectors got new orings fitted, the buckets look all good and were dry ont he car the manifold came off. before i got the car though the pvc system was split wide open causing lots of oil mist spray, that whole area under the manifold is covered in oily dirt, i'll get some good degreaser and brush it in well and pressure wash it all off and see how it comes up.

that shield looks good, i'll see if i can find the file for that or another one and can get my mate to print it off

Ah that makes sense, seems you have everything under control

Today, I have nothing more than bad news for the car.
The ABS module was tested & has come back healthy, or at least on a cold bench test. Unfortunately, as it is the only component that hasn't been replaced, it is suspected by the garage that it could be faulty under heated conditions. This is plausible, but it would be at the expense of a further £350+ to get it refurbished, totalling around £700 just to eliminate or fix the ABS module.
I've read that the tester can apply heat using a heat gun, but I'm not sure if this is widely practiced.
Either way, it seems I have no choice but to have it refurbished to complete the test & possibly get it working again, but I'll have to forget about getting back on the road this year.
These extra fees have completely eaten up my budget, but worst of all, crushed my hope of getting back out in it & enjoying it again.
If I was sane, it would be going on a trailer to the scrappy, but unfortunately I'm not that smart. 😔
Anyway that's it folks...tune in for another episode of 'Breaking BadBoy' next week 🫣
