Cheers mate..... They said they would check it... I only deal with there service manager now. I told him I had consulted other LCR owners and another dealer regarding this so they better get it right.

They said they need to adjust the steering with the track rods anyway so they will find a problem if there is one... The guy said it drove fine last time he drove it and said it might have been the camber of the corner to which I replied I have driven this corner nearly every day of my life.. its not the road!!!!

Thanks for the support guys.... if they can't sort it I will be posting on the dealer forum!

I,ve had a word with a guy who owns a local garage that services my wifes car this afternoon and he thinks that it could be the dampers.

So I phoned the dealers and told the guy on the sevice reception about the problem and the symptoms, he then had a word with the service manager who came on the phone and told me to get down tomorrow ASAP so that they could check it out,

I,ll keep everyone posted on the developments

well it could well be the shock.
that would explain why it would all of a sudden decide to understeer scarily..
few bumps and total loss of traction..
just remembered an old car where rear one had gone, didnt really notice till i went over a drain on a corner... wooo hooo!!!!!! drifting in a nova.
yes an SR too.. hangs head in shame.

so think ill hedge my bets and say track rod /shock

I went down to the dealers on tuesday and had a technician ride in the car and it did,nt bloody do it did it! in fact it handed great as the roads were dry,

so he inspected the car in the workshop and said that the shocks wishbone and bushes seemed fine, however he did find that the two front tyres where bald on the inside edge and suggested that when cornering it is riding on the bald patches, and with the roads being damp and greasy lately it being a grip prob he then suggested that I change the tyres and have the tracking checked and if the problem persisted that I come back and have a through inspection, so thats the next thing to do.

I have to say that the guys at Preimer SEAT in stoke, where I had the car from, bent over backwards for me that day.

I had the same problem after they had done my bearings. There are two adjustments on the suspension that can change the camber and tracking of the wheels. in 2 months my perfectly good tyres ended up on the beeding on the inside edges.... I charged the tyres to the dealer and its not been right since.... Still getting the wondering and car has not driven right since.

And now I have found that my new tyres are beginning to wear unevenly to? She is in next tuesday to get checked but I am willing to bet they do not find anything. The funny thing was the dealer were not aware of this extra adjustment which bodes well for getting it fixed properly?!!! but hey keep your fingers crossed they may sort something.

Have they done anything with your car regarding the tracking that may have lead to the tyres going balled?

Can you not stick the rear tyres on the front, purely to test his theory, otherwise its an expensive way just to 'try' something.......

Uneven wear - Pah! you kids don't know your born ;) this is uneven wear on the inside of an LCR tyre, outside edge of the tyre was fine

DSC00457.jpg

Caused by a leaky damper, this was on the rear though and I got vibration at speed like a wheel being out of balance and a droning sound with it.

That is nothing compared to mine....

I had no rubber it was the threading underneath on both front tyres inside edges!!! and it was the dealers fault for not doing the tracking after changing the wheel bearing! Dodgy!!! although that is pretty worn for a rear tyre! :)

My tyre had plenty of tread on the outside, 5-6mm+ which really annoyed me, the dealer should have spotted my damper too but they were useless......hence I took the decision to change to Bilstein Coilovers rather than wait for the other dampers to fail.

To be honest the dealer network up north for SEAT is rubbish I have not found one honest dealer so far! Also they seem to me to be rude.... May be I expect to much for a dealer to be honest and customer focused.

I know what you mean about outside tread..... the rest of my two tyres were very similar with anoth 10000 miles of wear on them... I am just hoping they find the fault this time otherwise I am off to JBS and hope they can sort something.... at least get it feeling solid on the road. There is just no feel to the steering!

TBH when I started to investigate my problem it was a systematic approach starting with easy (read:cheap) and obvious things

Wheel Balancing first
4-wheel alignment done
etc

Then I used Westec who found the problem, how did they find it? mechanic took the wheel off and felt something strange on the tyre which was one of those bold patches in the photo.

I had another problem a few months ago and that time it was the tyre itself, badly fitted I think but maybe just the construction etc, cured with a new pair of Goodyears.

All trial and error and took a long time

Trial and error is great but it is a pain to keep having to take it into unreliable dealers. I wanted Goodyear DSG-3's but they could not source them so I ended up with Michelin Pilot sports which are ok but I am sure the goodyears are better....

We will see as the dealer will be paying for more tyres if they can't fix it.... The car is less than 2 years old for goodness sake!

On another matter I have had a quote for my bodywork £240 for door repair full side painted and any other damage buffed up..... Not to bad me thinks but its money down a pit due to vandals.....

changing the tyres is not an expensive route to go down if they are worn on the inside edge.
Besides I could get 50 quid for them IF someone wanted them perphaps for a track day, no but seriously I have a family riding in the car and to me the tyres are an important element in the road holding of the vehicle, I never mind spending on tyres, besides the fronts are conti sports and I do,nt rate them
