Started giving the motor a good clean and polish as she is very dirty after all the road and track use the last couple months.

And noticed these little bits of bling that I had forgotten all about, they look much better when they are clean :)

I’ve been debating taking mine apart and either cutting a port in it, or stuffing it with rockwool. Probably doesn’t help that I completely lined the boot/wheel wells/rear bench/foot wells with sound deadening 🤣🤣 Huge difference to road noise, but hobbled the subwoofer!

How does the OPTION one stay in place if it’s not got the spare wheel hole in it for the retaining bolt?

Very nice!

I went the opposite way, and got @East Yorkshire Retrofits to upgrade me to the MK4 Cupra wheel - the paddles are soooooo much nicer, all the buttons work (inc ACC) and it’s heated 🥰

I replaced the Cupra branded airbag with the Seat equivalent (because I can’t claim to be a Cupra) and I dismantled the buttons so I could wrap the copper trims to gloss black. Future job will be to have it retrimmed in red. For now I’ve dyed the copper stitching black.

That's a great addition! I am also driving with heated steering wheel for over 2 years and it's one of the greatest mod that I've done to my MK3.

I don't know whether you've noticed but the + and - on the paddles are illuminated. Very simple and nice touch ;)

Yup, they’re so so much nicer - they actually make a satisfying click for starters (the mk3 wheel paddles always felt cheap and flimsy to me), they light up, and the metallic finish feels super premium. Overall it felt (to me at least) like it massively lifted how modern the cabin felt

I’d love to do virtual cockpit, but it’s just so expensive to do properly, and I’m still a sucker for an analog dial

Retrofitting the original Virtual Cockpit was a lucky find back then, costing less than €400.

Retrofitting a heated steering wheel is simple. You'll need an adapter from AliExpress, either 5Q0 or 5Q1 depending on the model year. You'll also need a suitable slip ring. Run the positive wire to the fuse box, using the free slot for terminal 30. Connect the negative wire to a central ground terminal. Replace the steering wheel, code it, and you're done.

After doing nothing on the Leon for a long while, decided to see if I like the function and aesthetics of a touch climate panel from a newer VW Group car so grabbed a cheap one from eBay.

Turns out that the touch buttons are actually much better than expected and the look of it wasn't as offensive as I thought. Got it all programmed and working correctly and it functions fine.

My biggest aesthetic worry was the shiny plastic looking out of place but the shiny black trims above it made it fit in quite well! May need to sort out a trim for it in the new year lol.

This almost justifies buying another 3D printer ha!

Noooooooo, much prefer having actual buttons and dials - touch is just worse, especially if you’re trying your use them without looking. My wife’s mk8 Golf absolutely gets on my tits, its impossible to turn the heated seats on without using the stupid voice control whilst your driving - as it’s either sat in a menu 3 deep from the main screen, or you have to tap touch sensitive bar for adjusting the temperature with two fingers - and it never ever ever works. You just end up turning the temperature up or down, or nearly crash the car in the process. Absolutely goddamn useless
/end rant 🤣🤣

I must say, you didn't sound like an old cobbler being resistant to change at all LOL

I agree, I prefer dials and buttons, something the MK8 golf lacks entirely around the whole car except the steering wheel and the new age, overly complicated, light enigma button cluster. I had one whilst my car was having it's new engine and I was so underwhelmed with the interior that it put me off buying one in the future entirely (had already planned to buy an Ateca next anyway so good thing really)

The "being in a cockpit" feeling is my happy place so the more dials, switches, buttons and lights around me the better BUT with that being said, I also like my car having uncommon touches. After the job move I plan on spending some shiny pennies on the car but I also want it to have maximum value when it comes time to sell so I am caught between 2 schools of though on adding cool ass mods/upgrades/retrofits or leaving it as a great stock example.

Hehe don’t get me wrong, your car so you do what makes you happy! And it is a cool quirky touch to differentiate from the norm - think I’ve just been jaded by the mk8 golf, I absolutely hate the controls in that!

Luckily hers has the physical wheel buttons, as the R-Line has capacitive on the wheel too! It’s been annoying enough that I’ve now completely written off the idea of ever upgrading to the either the mk4/4.5 Cupra (either Leon or Formentor) - I just don’t like this “everything hidden in a giant screen” system. I can’t fathom how it’s illegal to use a phone whilst driving, but an iPad on the dashboard is fine??

Anyway, if you like it, that’s all that matters! The wife hates my carbon fibre DSG gear knob, says it’s pikey 🤣🤣🤪
