Space saver spare wheel?

Ordered one with the Altea but it didn't turn up on delivery. Apparently it's at the dealers now (4 weeks later) but has to have a tyre fitted. If anyone has one could they tell me what size/make of tyre is on it. Also, is there a foam insert that sits inside it to hold the jack etc and does the wheel secure to the boot floor. If anyone has a picture that would be great.
Just want to make sure I get everything I'm supposed to this time.

Cheers

Hello

I take it you have gone for the spare tyre option which I believe means you will lose the dual level boot floor no idea what size tyre you will get.

I think most of us have just gone for the standard can of foam repair and the VW 12 volt pump which is supposed to be able to bridge a 2 cm split in the tyre ( though I doubt that!!.... and hope not to have to find out ;) )

The space saver spare wheel does allow you to keep the dual level boot floor which is handy as I keep my clobber there.

The tyre size is T 125/70R and the wheel does have an insert to hold the jack etc.

I (hopefully) attach a photo.

Another go at attaching the photo. BTW the tyre is a Continental and is limited to 50mph

Hi folks,

you want pictures? ... look what I've got to offer:

http://www.seat-forum.de/forum/showthread.php?t=8744&page=4&pp=15

(see post #56 ff.)

This is an current topic in our german forum as well, as since beginning of October, there seems to be an official option for ordering an "emergency" spare tyre ... up till then there were only TMS or 205 spare available in Germany, thou France and Belguim already offered them.

Ordered mine with the spacesaver and my dealer handled it fine even though it had to be ordered seperate to the care and they fitted all the gubbins to the car for delivery. As mentioned you do not loose the duel level boot feature if you go for the spacesaver. I see the quality of aftersales is upto its usual standard, thank god I have a good dealer.

Mine isn't a space saver but I still managed to get a bonio box worth [as it package box 12 x 12 x 12] of stuff in the lower area, freeing up the boot:). ie. pump, brace, tow rope... everthing to the year dot of car ownership that you carry in the boot just in case.

Latest update:

Just off the phone to the dealer (having not returned my calls for the umpteenth time).
Dealer: 'Could you call to collect the spare wheel on Friday or Saturday'.
Me: No problem.
Dealer: 'It's a full size spare wheel, they don't do a space saver for the Altea'.
Me: Yes they do, it's listed as an option, I can show you pictures of it fitted on the car, installed in the boot with the foam packing etc (Thanks Klawit ;) )
Dealer: 'There seems to be a difference of opinion here, I'll get back to you'.

Damn right there's a difference of opinion. [:@] That's it now, the end of the tether has been reached. What with the query over the delivery mileage and all, there's definitely a letter going to the dealer principle now.

Would anyone have a part number for the space saver wheel, foam insert and all the necessary bits. Would I be able to get part numbers from Seat Customer Services?

Deep breath and relax.........

Sorry to hear that ...
on the german forum we're waiting for a reply from the pal that owns the brandnew Altea with the spacesaver (=> http://www.seat-forum.de/forum/showpost.php?p=108755&postcount=60 )
... as soon as the part numbers appear I'll post them here as well.

Just had a look at mine and the foam insert has a part no. on it of "8PO 012 109 E", the spare wheel I am not sure of as there is a sticker on it but I don't recognise the number printed on it as a part no. but here it is anyway "W01K0601011" it has a T125/70 R18 tire on it. I presume you will have already got all the standard tools like Jack, wheel brace, Screwdriver, Towing eye, Wheel cover puller and locking nut adapter so no need for those part no.s

Hope this helps but as said I'm a bit unsure about the wheel no.

When I was looking at the options for my Toledo, I was categorically told that you can't have a space saver spare with 17" alloys - not sure if that is true, or not, if it is relevant to this issue

Thanks for the info guys,

aceman, that number on the wheel ties up with a number I got from the link that klawit posted. When I put it through a translator it came up with "1K0.601.011 complete wheel with diagonal tyre in 18", but I wasn't sure whether the European and UK parts numbers tied up. The link also gave a number for a 16" space saver?? Thanks for your help.

Jaytee, I've read that you can't have a full size 17" alloy in the boot but I can't see why you couldn't have a space saver. Surely the rolling radius of a space saver would be the same whether you were running 16 or 17" alloys.
aceman, are you running 17" alloys?

Hi Distant Sun,
glad I could help ... :)
I guess what John meant was that they probably can't let you order the 17" alloys together with the space saver and vice versa ... they just don't have this combination programmed in them standard fitting-processes for their conveyor belts (if you'll kindly excuse my english) ... just like some colors won't go with sport-up etc. ...
... better wait for aceman to tell us which wheel size originally came with his Altea.

You can have a full size spare wheel in the boot - I have ordered one with my Toledo which will have 17" alloys - just what size wheel and tyre full size means, I will have to see! - (it is a steel wheel, not alloy)
Attached is an image of boot floor with spare wheel - acknowledgements due to ?? who sent me this (sorry, can't remember!)
Cheers,
John.

Hi John,
you picked the trunk picture of my Sporty :)

... and the steel wheel you'll be expecting will obviously be a 205/55 R16, just like mine.

Have fun ... Klaus

No bother !

I am running standard 16" alloys so I can't answer the query regarding the 17"s I am afraid.

Klaus, I suppose you could be right, it's just one of those combination things that Seat don't allow for.

John, when I read the Altea options I assumed that Seat were implying that a 17" alloy wouldn't fit in the boot, though I know a full size spare will. I'm now thinking what they mean when they say "Full size spare wheel (Not with optional 17" alloys)" is that if you order 17's, you'll not be getting a fifth one for the boot. :(

Then again I could be completely wrong

Cheers,

G

As for Germany, here's the deal:
you order the Sport-Edition (or Sport-up) and get those four 17" alloy wheels and the TMS along with them ... as an additional option you can trade in the TMS for the 205 steel spare with no extra costs when ordering ... it's not a dealer's offer but a regular Seat configuration option.

And that's what it looks like:

tyre: Bridgestone Turanza ER300 - 205/55 R16 91V

steel wheel part-no.: 1K0 601 027 A 03C

No idea, why there's Firestone printed on the label ...

Mainly rediculous: They announce the spare wheel as adequate substitute ... but why the h*ll is this sticker saying "max. 50 mp/h" though V-index???

greets ... Klaus
