Hi, havnt been on here for a while as i switched to an s3, which im very pleased with , apart from this problem!

Im having major issues with a misfire on cylinder number 1 on my 2001 S3. Engine management light flashing. Now on permenant!

Its running very rougth from cold not wanting to pull at all, and then after a couple of miles gets better, but still misfiring. Its been on vag com and it says misfire on cylinder number 1. So i first changed all the coil packs with the cheapo gsf ones, better, then went back to square one after 20 miles. Since then ive replaced the plugs with brand new ones, and fitted the better quality coils (bremi), and still no good. Its also now needing the engine coolant topping up after only 100 odd miles.

The mechanic i use said its possibly a broken valve spring, but id like a to know if anyone else may have had this problem, as its a costly job. It does also seem to be burning oil which makes me think it could be head gasket.

Any ideas off the techies on here would be great, as this is doin my head in!
