Not actually done this myself, but used to do it every so often on my old Corsa. Do these get particularly clogged? Is it worth me whipping the hose off and getting the old carb cleaner out? Or are they generally fairly self cleaning?

when i last had the hose to my throttle body off it looked nice and clean in there its quite easy to check aswell one jubilee clip and you can see straight in there.
if you do remove the throttle body your have to do a throttle body realignment with vagcom.

Cheers, I can re-align it with my Liquid gauge. Is it something that could be cleaned still in situ do you think? I do mainly local driving so mines more likely to be clogged I suspect.

I cleaned mine at the begining of the summer but that was just because I had a strange throttle angle fault. It didnt need doing TBH though.

Not realy worth doing on yours, Will (I assume yours is still low mileage).

Mine was on circa that too, Will. Still nice and clean in there.

I removed mine completly to do. Then realigned with vag-com. There's a vodeo of it somewhere :)

I might pop the hose off and see how mucky it looks, if it's fairly shiny might just give it a miss for now...the car will get a good run down to Silverstone at weekend anyways :)

I took my LC TB off a couple of months back, just undid the bolts but left it connected. Was dirty as hell, but then it was over 100k lol

Take the bolts out and have a look inside, no harm in trying ;)

New gasket if taken off, yes.

One question I always seem to see different answers on - should you move the butterfly valve by hand to clean, or does this damage the stepper motor attached to it?

Some people say you can clean it in situ and move the valve, others say you shouldn't move it, and disconnect it from the car to clean the other side.

Thanks Damo - I always thought that was the case, but got knocked down in flames by a few people about it. So long as you're not FORCING the motor against it's will then it should be good :)
Cheers!
