Had my first service done early cos there was a clonking noise and a lot of vibration from the gear nob in neutral. It turns out they had to replace all the drop linkages and couldn't figure out the gear stick thing.

Is it normal to have these linkages changed at only 8K? The car is only 3 months old! and is a new face lift mk4 TDI FR.

How much did your first servicing cost you? I went into castlegate SEAT because thats where i bought my car, and asked what my first annual servicing would cost (Ive only done 6500) for my fr tdi and the guy told me £195! I almost pi55ed my self laughing and told him politely that he wouldnt be seing my car in there again.

My gearlever buzzed when the car was new but it cured itself after a while. Just a thought – I wonder how much that enormous gear knob on the new Ibiza FR weighs? If the problem is the same as mine, you can stop it buzzing by nudging the lever over to the right, so perhaps a heavy gear knob could be pulling the lever over to the left hand side where it rattles. Just a theory and probably wrong.:)

8000 miles does seem a very low mileage to be replacing ARB links but they do seem to be a weak point on lots of current VAG cars, not just Ibizas.

The trouble is, Castlegate's premises are in quite an expensive location and they have had to invest a fortune recently to keep the premises up to the standards demanded by SEAT these days – new flooring, signage etc. They have got to get the money back somehow so they aren't going to be cheap.

The problem is, they are the only SEAT dealership in Norfolk so there is nowhere else to go without using an independent. You could try an independent local VW dealership. Hang on, that's Castlegate!

Not sure but I think that is Norwich Volkswagen Centre (NVWC) which is how Castlegate started years and years ago.

Actually, I got on ok with Castlegate when I had the Leon but I haven't used them since I've had the Ibiza – and things change. Let us know here if you find anywhere good to do the service.:)

I paid £85.05 for my service at GK group Seat in Derbywhich was less than they were advertising it for.

Ol timer, have you tried or heard about that Inchcape Autoparc on Reepham Road. £99 for any minor service and £150 for any major service for any brand of car!??

Sorry, can't help there. I have had all my servicing on the Ibiza done by Robinsons SEAT, Lowestoft as that's where I bought the car and they are quite near to me. They charged me about £130 for the first annual inspection service and oil change combined.

The Inchcape prices sounds quite good though. There are plenty of places to choose from but I don't know how you pick a good 'un.:D
