from what i gathered it was a case of unbolt the drive shafts firstly, take gear linkage off, unplug 2 plugs i think there was then just unbolt gearbox and replace with new?
would do it myself and may give it a whirl but its bloody heavy... will need to look into it a bit more if im going to attempt it... bring ouyt the trusty haynes
im not sure what its called but theres an integral bit of the gearbox attatched effectively to the clutch release arm, but inside the box, is this a clutch release bearing, it spins like a bearing but not sure what it is... what is it and is it worth replacing it when i have it put in?
shop about and find one as best you can be worth changing anyway especially as its a box off job to do
you'll enjoy the driveshaft bolts
m0rk - i swapped all mine last time for Ford Granada rear shaft bolts - same cv joint as it happen - plus bonus of a heavy duty solid 6 sided drive instead of that soft multi spline crap as standard
i guess its going to be a bitch to undo them then lol. the guy just cut the old driveshafts instead of unbolting them, so i got to undo them before i fit it, if i cant do it ill just get someone to do it. i always end up rounding and falttening stuff anyway, when i swapped my suspension, the top bolts were seized on so i just figured to cut the whole suspension off with and angle grinder... this ones a smart lad got some new ones for a tenner for 4 corners so wasnt too bothered
i had my clutch done so i dont want to have to get a new one, cant remember if it came with the bearing bit... will buy one anyway if theyre reasonable just in case
if anyones awake for this...
is there a simple way that i havent thought of about how to lift the gearbox into position, i figured if i take the wheel off ill be given much better access... are we thinking hydraulic jack 'adapted' to lift the gearbox? or make shift winch.... hmmm maybe not
best way is drop the engine mount so the engine tilts. remove the passanger wheel. I lifted a 1.4 on with one arm so i reckon you should be able to lift it in with some help. they are a piece of P*** to do. fiddly but easy. try a BMW what a twat lol
