Hello
I have a 1.6 TDI CR with a dreaded DPF. Although the DPF light has never been on the car runs like a bag of bolts when it regens. I am a driving instructor and this is somewhat embarrassing for me when a pupil is driving the car. Car is great otherwise.

Question is: How does the 2.0 TDI CR FR compare to the 1.6 TDI CR for regeneration? More often? Smoother? etc.

Thanks.

I can't compare as have never driven the 1.6, but my 2.0 TDi CR FR runs like rubbish when it's doing a regen... So maybe they're both as bad as each other.
I think mine does a regen about once a month, sometimes twice, not sure how that compares to anyone else though.
Also lately, I've noticed when the cars trying to regen it uses alot more fuel, do you find this aswell?

Only way I know it's doing a regen is by the raised tickover revs. Non of the lumpy running/idling that others seem to get.

Also, I've been running V-Power the last few fill-ups, regens are definitely a lot less frequent with it ;)

My 1.6 is crap to drive when doing a regen! Driving around our site today whilst the car was doing a regen. My foot was steady on the throttle at around 2000rpm but the car kept accelerating and decelerating! It does the same on the open road when I'm running on the cruise control. My car is just short of 15000 miles and has done 43 regens!
Regards Regens on the 2.0 I hear the 170 is a lot worse than the 140.

How do you know it has done 43? Normally the 1.6 CR TDI does an active regen approx. every 250 miles.

A regen every 250 miles seems an awfull lot, where did you get that info from?

Mine has 12,000 miles on and I have only noticed it do two maybee three regens. If it had done 48 I think I would have noticed a few more of them!

Mines the same - just over 13,500 miles and I've only ever known my car to do 2 regens, but I do quite a lot of motorway/country road journeys, so I think my car is passively clearing out the DPF when I'm driving.

How on earth are people keeping count of how many regens they've had?

Because the car ticks over at a lumpy 1000 rpm and drives like a camel when it is doing a regen. First one at 900 miles then at irregular intervals. on average every 348 miles!
It has probably had it's fair share of passive regens, but have not noticed them.

I'm guessing you'll mostly get regens if you don't do a lot of long trips? I've only had my Ibiza FR for a few days now (LOVE IT!) and I was wondering what might happen to mine considering I do roughly 50 miles a day Mon-Fri.

15,000 miles in seven months so the car is not doing short trips!!

10000 miles of mixed town and dual carriageway and I don't believe a regeneration has taken place? If it has there has been no impact on my driving....

mmmm starting to think i should ring up seat and switch my 2.0 TDI FR CR to the 1.4 petrol................that said i do alot of motorway driving

I was having the same thoughts, i love my 2.0, but the regens are doing my head in lately, i do too many short trips i guess :(

Agreed. I wasn't saying you do short trips tho, I was clarifying as I'm new to these cars. I do 15,000 pa so I'll be in a similar boat to you. Really hoping it doesn't get as bad as some of the experiences in this thread!

Mine seems to do a regen every 180 miles, however a lot of my driving is learner driving.

Does anyone know if the Audi A1 and new polo run badly during regen? I can't imagine people buying an A1 are going to put up with kangaroo gas pedal when regenerating. A 1.6TDI CR A1 S Line with some good options cost about £21, 000.
