Let us know what your mate says..

Personally id say its up to the garage to check the car over fully before signing the paperwork and handing over the keys to your new one... If they dont check it (as they didnt when i last part ex'd a car) then thats their problem..

Youd never buy a second hand car privately without a test drive would you ?

I'd still aim to get it fixed though saying that... Is not a nice feeling to rip someone off like that ;)

Slightly off topic sorry but bear with me...

I used to work for a motorcycle dealer many, many years ago, I'd had this bike (gs550) 3 years and canned the crap out of it, a lot of the time, never had a problem in 3 years, 2 weeks after being sold on the engine blew apart, and the shop tried to make me responsible..... err 2 word's.... NO WAY.

This is a slightly different problem, in that your buying a car from them...

most car dealers have a minimum p/ex value, for old clunkers and shite heaps people just want to be shot of, then they trade it out or send it off the the auctions, but your car i assume is a pretty decent one, with a smokey engine...

it all dends on what the outcome of the diagnostic is, doesn't it really, then see where you want to go from there, you might still as i said before be able to p/ex it at a reduced value.

Yea i agree - at the end of the day, most used cars are traded on or sent to auction. Within the price they give you, they generally will allow for a bit of wear and tear together with a slight margin for themselves. All you are is 'joe public' who doesnt have a clue about cars mechanically - you went to a dealer for that very reason - peace of mind - and you paid more cash as a consequence.

If they come back to you in a few weeks with the fault, I cant see how they have much of a leg to stand on? They offered a warranty with their car and you paid a premium for this..........you didnt offer anything on yours? Its their responsibility to check the car over thoroughly....

Ultimately, i would go along to the garage and risk it. Worst case scenario is:

they drive it and find the fault........remember they will still want to flog you the car...the salesman will be paid commission and probably not on your part exchanges profit.....just 'play dumb' and get them to quote you for the work. Say that you need to think about it - walk away and drive straight to Ford/VW etc. Negotiate a deal with Ford/VW on the basis the work will be carried out and then go back to Seat........chances are with September 1st you will get quoted a STONKING deal on a similar vehicle. Seat will have registered the new car in your name and taxed it + counted it as a sale for the month.....i think they would buckle under the pressure of losing the deal.

hello just happened to read through ur problem and i think ur right about the turbo being faulty because oil is pumped into ur turbo to keep it lubricated. somehow the oil has leaked into the fins of the turbo and thats why you may will have got black smoke from the car's exhaust

Just get yours re-built mate, i took mine to my local turbo place and they fixed it for me for 120 quid. New seals, impellar etc MUCH cheaper than buying a new one.

any idea who would do that... to be honest i have never heard of a turbo place near me... wouldnt know where to start

thanks

You would have to look in your local yellow pages etc. The company near me is MIE Essex turbos, they were ok. Im sure someone up your neck of the woods could point you in the right direction.

ok cheers buddy, just wondering roughly how long it took to refurb

Not long, i wasnt in a hurry so wasnt to pushy, but im sure if you gave it to them, you could have it back same day, or next. its only a case of taking it apart, and replacing the bits.
