Hi,

I've been looking through the forums and trying to get an idea of how much this is going to cost me and what's involved. I'd also really like yo know when the cam belt needs changing as I hear that's going to be expensive.

I've phoned my local SEAT dealer and they want £295 for the service and, if needed, £130 for brake pads. I'm no genius but have they just put a gun in my back and asked me to cough up?

The car is out of warranty soon so I can't see that much of a benefit taking it to my local dealer. It doesn't help that they're rude and incompetent either!

I've heard good things about Midland VW. A friend has just called them for me (must a quiet day in the office) and got a price of £225 for service and pads. How's that sound?

Thanks,

John

Sounds about right for a dealer jobbie, I know JBS quote around £250 for a 40k service. I need mine doing, so would be interested in the Midland VW. Is that price with or without parts tho?

Deebo - Do you work there? I dont need disc/pads as got new ones on my 30k service :p Would that make it alot cheaper?

Nah don't work there, just got my car serviced there last year. Was very impressed with their service.

The quote was £160 for 40K service + £65 for front pads if done at same time.

Sorry is that +VAT? + Parts? Or all in? Thats a very good price. Where abouts are they baised?

I called the SEAT dealer to cancel the service but still do the warranty work. I couldn't get through to the service department so I asked the polite lady on the phone to pass on the message that I'd just like the warranty work done.....

....imagine my surprise when 30 minutes later I get a call from said dealer. Asked why I was cancelling the service, I informed them of the Midland VW quote. After he got back up off the floor he enquired as to whether they were using genuine SEAT parts and if they knew what was involved in the service. Surely they're not suggesting the Midlands VW don't use genuine parts (not a massive problem is they don't?) and that they don't know what a 40k service entails?

After some horrible grovelling (which I thoroughly enjoyed), they reduced their price to £195 for the service and £295 for the service plus the brakes. How could I refuse? Easily. The fact that they are prepared to charge us that price and then, after the minimum of effort on our part, are willing to reduce their initial price by a massive 33% just goes to show how much we're being taken for a ride. I was even offered the excuse that they weren't too sure how much the brakes would cost because they don't know the size of them.....even though they had my registration number? Yeah, nice one!

My warranty is up in March so I'm going to get a couple of things done and then it'll the last I see of the dealer!

Thought this might prove of interest/amusement to the community!

Just a shame they are so far away really, over 80 miles, so 160+ to get back again!

Really cheap tho :D

I had my 20k service done at a local porsche speacialists in covemtry. Seat quoted me around £200 iirc, but this place charged me £90 inc parts, and used the correct PD oil and also seat parts. Am going to use them to have my 5k oil change at the end of the month and also to have both front and rear discs and pads changed and some better brake fluid changed aswell.

Just another option for you guys, Votex in Congleton.... Cant recommend them enough, always worth giving them a try for prices etc

Hi

Has or does anyone know of cheaper stealers in around Milton Keynes or Northampton? Havent had a quote yet for firs 10k service, but if anyone has already had this but used a better garage, advise would be appreciated :)

Cheers

For the warranty to remain valid does the maintenance still need to be carried out at a SEAT dealership? or a SEAT approved garage? As I'm sure I heard something fairly recently that as long as they use SEAT parts you can get servicing done by a 3rd party garage ??? (I've got another 4,000 miles to do yet before my first service) Would be realyl handy especially now how allot of dealerships where I live charge 85 plus per hour labour, I guess this is pretty much the same everywhere.

You can use any garage as long as they are VAT registered and you use geniune Seat parts.

Ive had all my servicing done by JBS AutoDesigns, and have had a fair bit of warrenty work done to!

Funny you should ask.

Just got mine done a Croyde bay motors in north deveon. The main dealers for Seat and Skoda. I've been using them for the last 3 - 4 years.

40k service was £190, but this did include a night stay over in there flat as we travelled from Cheltenham.

So you get fantasic service from the same faces (I hate it when you go back to the garage and all the people have changed) great price and a night away.

They did the service on the saturday morning, it also got a wash, which was nice.

Hope this helps,
