some may say lala land....
Has been booked in for end of March and will be £303.76 give or take an arm or leg.....

Does this seem reasonable - I'm having done at a stealer as it is under warranty until end of June and then I'll go independent if I can find a good local one to Shrewsbury - any hints
also having new front bumper fitted after hitting it on a tow bar on way int work this morning, that is going to be an expensive morning :(

Sounds about right for a dealer my local dealer quoted me £290.

I took mine to Awesome Gti, they were cheaper and the service was great.

I recommend them to everyone !

some may say lala land....
just had quote for new bumper and painting and fitting etc and i''m now going with a VERY DEEP begging bowl to bank manager
bumper - £299.85+VAT
to paint and fit - £250+VAT (inc 2 days to paint and fit) have given them a months notice!!!
he also said that the bonnet seal and splitter were NOT valid parts for my car! "Does not list item for vehicle. may not fit" from ETKA? how can this be so?
can people confirm this for me? what would i need for others to help?

thank you (may not bother with repair as that is too much for me - but makes car look naff)

Under EU directive you don't need to take it to a stealer to maintain warranty. I would never take my car to a dealer as the service you get for the prices is rubbish. I would always recommend a good independent or Specialist every time.

My 60k service (same as a 40k but cam belt was done at 40k) was £160 from my local independent. They had a 1928 Rolls Royce Silver mc something (had a quick look at work) and worth around £128000. if they can leave that there I more than trust them with my 4k toledo!

40k for me involves:

£25 for oil, £5 for filter, £20 for fuel filter, wash the green filter
Around an hour or less labour. Some checks on other things with vag com / brakes etc.

£300 horrifies me. (but I have no warranty to preserve)

Oldman, how good are you with cars? Personally, all I do with the servicing is change all the filters myself:

Oil filter
Fuel filter
Air filter
Decent Oil
Pollen etc

Then take to a Skoda garage and ask them to check it and stamp book. They will probably charge an hour labour. Jackpot, a service for £150, with decent products!!

i'm no use at all, my dad would have done it all for me (was a mechanic) but unfortunately he's no longer here.
i'm no good with that sort of thing, all fingers and thumbs. could do it but the time i would take is probably not countable!!

i understand that to keep warranty i don't need to use a genuine stealer, but they can't through rubbish saying that they didn't do it so wont touch, usual get out clauses they use to not do or rip your arm off

All you need is a VAT registered chap. An independant specialist will do the job fine. You can always buy all the parts and let them have it to fit.

It sounds like a lot of money to protect a warranty that will run out in a couple months.

Whatever happened to DIY (do-it-yourself)?
