Just got a quote from local dealer for 40k service for our Ibiza 1.4. They'd charge £210. Is this an ok price? Our cheap local garage will do it for less of course but is it worth going with dealer on this? We've owned the Ibiza for a year and will maybe sell it before the next service... Sorry - first time car owner and no idea if the benefits of the dealer doing the service outweigh the costs...

ive just been quoted for a 30k service 175 quid to change the oil and filter. :-o the nice lady at the stealers tryed 2 justify it by saying its a 1.6 hours service and they do alot of checks. which made it all seem worth it. lol!

Oil filters and oil, fuel filters etc so easy to do in your own garage or in the street even.

Makes it cheaper in the long run.

Only time mine goes to the garage is for the Cambelt.

thats the route im gonna take. do it your self, 4 the win. and save 150 quid. :funk:

But by doing it yourself you end up with no service history which will put prospective buyers off and possibly devalue your car. Not by loads but you may lose buyers if you sell it privately, and attract a lower trade in price if you chop it in for another car

i agree with you i always serviced my old car never got the book stamped so realistically it had no service history i lost about £500 on it for this but if you mount up the costs of services over time owned then see the difference in price does it really make a difference,i never got round to offering a service manager £20 or so for three or four stamps in the book lol.

My car is missing one stamp in the service history and when i attempted to trade it in a couple of months back, it was suddenly worth about 500 quid less than it had been worth when they didnt know about the missing stamp.

If your going to do one service it yourself you may as well do all of them yourself, thus saving the difference in value over the years of ownership against servicing costs. Just dont miss the odd one and end up with part service history because you'll end up about 400 quid down on the value of your car for the sake of a £100 minor service...

And they deffo wont stamp the book for you no matter how much you plead with them, its fraudulent unless it was actually done at said dealer....

It'll be going up for sale privately or getting sold to carcraft now I think. Theres a strong possibility of a company car in the next couple of months, so im glad it didnt go when I was looking to change!

Agree I lost money on my last car cos of this and everyone asked if I had a stamped book and when I said no 90% of them never called back. I offended my work colleague as he would do it cheap for me ( I work in a garage) Actually had a debate with a young lad at work about this, I then asked if he had sold a car with no service history and he said he is only 20 and had one car. I won!
