Hi right had the car a week now and last night for the first time the ABS light wouldn't go off, what could it be as the ABS control unit was replaced not so long ago??

ABS sensors are common fault. Clean it up and you should be fine.

Cheers fella was hoping it'd be something that simple!

Going to overhaul it all anyway as I haven't got the confidence in the brakes I used to!

Also forgot to ask out of the top of my fluid resevior there's a pink tube that sticks out with a metal top which when pushed down floats back up again, does anyone know if this is normal as I've never seen it anywhere??

i saw this problem before. i think the light is on because it thinks the fluid is low. if u hold that in i rekon the light will go off. dunno thou :D:blink:

To be honest I thought it may have been a warning but it's odd as you push it down and it floats back up, that's what's confused me!

Looks like I'll be bleeding brakes on Saturday then!

fluid reservoir top is broken for starters

the float shaft (pink bit) should be held down and inside

Cheers for the clues, my abs light came on this week.

Plugging it into VAG-COM with a work laptop tomorrow, see if it's a sensor. Just been jetwashed, that was first port of call.

Cheers Flapper confirmed my suspicions it may be fecked.

Oh well looks like the Porker caliper's will have to go on hold!

Nice Idea Smithy, any chance I could come over and do the same??

If not has anyone else in Essex/herts/kent/East London Area got VAG-COM I could borrow??

Plugged in the laptop at work, front-left abs sensor.

Getting the part tomorrow to fit on the weekend. You're welcome to diagnose your car with me, all you need to do is provide me with a laptop :) I don't own one myself, hence doing it at work.

Top fella, I've got one but what running requirements does VAG-COM need??

A healthy laptop with a usb slot :) It's not a processor hungry app.

PM me if you need to get it done, I'm only over in west Cheshunt, nearer Goffs Oak, you're an m25 junction away.

hi im new my abs light is on in my car its a mk2 i think r reg cupra gti ibiza can any one tell me were the abs sensor is and what im looking for cheers

You need to get it plugged into diagnostics to tell you.

one of the 4 sensors, or the control unit

the sensors are right behind the calipers, mine ket coming on so i used a pressure washer and cleaned in around the back of the wheel, seemed to of sorted mine.

the magnets in the sensor collect the iron filings from the disc wear. that will eventually build up & cause the sensor to misread

cleaning the surface with a rag is the best way.

i've done the same - quick fix is a blast with a jet washer, but it's not long before it happens again (but I'm lazy & tight, so it suits me!)

This was my faulty one, should have 2 clean contacts on the top ...as you can see it's a bit gunked up. All it needed was a clean actually, can be a bugger to remove without taking the disc off. If you can take the disc off, you can clean the contacts without removing the sensor. They're also strongly magnetised at the contact points.
