Anyone used Asda's own oil?

Just wondering if anyone knows if this oil is any good or who actually produces this oil, at £14 for 5 litres it looks like it's too good to miss out if it's any good.

I used the tescc own oil once and it worked fine at the end of the day there are only 2 companys that drill and refine the oil if im not mistaken

Nah there's hundreds of drillers, and thousands of refinery's.

Don't think I'd use it in my LCR but if I had a typical small engined car that was a few years old at that price I'd definitely use it

Would never use cheap oil in my Leon personally. Or in any other vehicle in fact. Not even halfords own brand, wouldn't even touch it. I only use well known brand and to VW specification.

as CJS-90 said im not sure id put it in an lcr, but its probably alright to be fair. i have used varying oil in all of my cars and bikes, never had an issue with any (ive used asda oil in my bike but not car)

Asda don't make oil, Tesco don't make oil, Halfords don't make oil, even VW/Seat don't make oil. I know for a fact that Halfords is made by Comma but as for the rest no idea.

Providing it matches the specification for your engine it will be fine but when I looked at the Asda stuff the other day I spotted a serious flaw. It says on the bottle "VW specification" but it does not list the ones it meets and there are many. It did not list any of the other manufacturers specs that it quoted either. Because of this I would not put it in my Seat.

But, the spec is 5w/30 Fully Synthetic C3 which meets the spec exactly for the Mrs car so if I needed 5 litres I would get some at £14. Better than spending £45 for 4 litres of Shell.

Apparently Comma are doing it for most companies now, as said above they definitely do the Halfrauds stuff and apparently most of your supermarket stuff is Comma too. I've use Comma in my old Astra Turbo and it was fine. I'd happily use it in my LCR, though if I've the choice I tend to steer towards Castrol/ Mobil1 etc.

Everyone knows that if you pay through the nose it's better stuff...right?

Id want to know how the oil performs at low temps like cold starts, when engine wear is at its highest. Im sure they all work well at 90 but given the length of time it takes to warm up during the winter......

That's why oils are multgrades. The 5 means they protect when they are cold and thicker, the 30 means they protect when they are hot and thinner. But VW have used many specs of oil over the years and the Asda container does not detail which it meets. As I said above that means I would not use it.

You mean comma oil is repackaged and rebranded as "halfords own"

Vw oil is branded as quantum and is blended with Fuchs

The grades for diesel oil is very important especially for the likes of pd engines or those with a DPF. Petrol engines will run well on anything mid ranged but will benefit from higher quality products, especially if they are being driven hard.

Oils have different grades i work in a refinerey and companies like tesco are given the crappier stuff. We blend the oild to the highest standard and then add some crap into it depending on what the company specs up. So if i were you a would go with a high quality fuel like Mobil1...not that im biased to mobil1 cos i work there or anything

Personally with the oil starvation and blocked pickups that these engines are increasingly suffering from is it worth risking your engine for another £20?

Don't want to upset anyone but search the net and you'll find the proper grade/spec'd oil for your car.
