i know its fairly new etc - perhaps some people have made the change? (although most of you are stage 2 so i doubt it)

dropped my car off for the new linear map this morning.

initial impressions??

Doctor Gonzo had it done recently. Have a look at his thread here

Looks like a nice increase going by his results. Let us know how you get on!!

I've got it. There is no increase in power or anything over the old map, it just makes the throttle response less aggressive. You have to push the pedal further to get full throttle. That is all

Hmmmm!

doctor gonzo paid 280 for the upgrade, wtf.
im waiting for the garage to get back to me regarding a price from revo.

chris, thanks.
how much did you pay? and have you had it dyno'd?

ive learnt that the k04 prefers a progressive throttle, perhaps thats why there maybe a slight increase in performance figures?
dr gonzo's figures do seem to good to be true

Drgonzo had a complete new map i think so paid full price. I paid an extra 60 quid for the linear map. Its not been dyno'd but that wouldnt tell you much anyway as I've got it set for 95 ron fuel. I'm not tight, my company pay for my fuel and wont allow super!

Its nice and placid when driving around town and its better for my wife to drive it this way, though I've noticed it's not that progressive. There seems to be a jump in power at around half throttle onwards. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it

cool,
will let you know.

i see what your saying about 95 ron petrol, but is there any point changing maps if your not really gettin the most of it?

i use the SPS3 and it will be interesting using it on the new map,

worth it for 60 quid i suppose.
whether or not ill miss the 'big thump' of the original map is yet to be seen. (isnt that what revo are known for after all, hmmmm)

Its still much quicker than standard so yes its definitely worth it.

I think you're misunderstanding what the linear map is. Torque and power characteristics are exactly the same so you still get big mid range power or a 'big thump' as you put it. You just have to push the throttle in a bit further. Whichever map you have your dyno curves would be identical.

i understand

but instead of the power being delivered in one thump, the new map ensures theres still a some life left in the turbo in the higher revs.
kinda

Yep, half throttle onwards power shoots up, before that you can potter around on less throttle without throwing away your monies. Seems pretty good to me, im returning better mpg on motorway journeys at 80mph than i was at 75mph on the old map, not sure how it works but it does?!

i understand

No it wont. Its exactly the same as the old map. No more top end power, no better mpg, nothing.

If you google it there's a thread on a golf forum where a revo rep explains this

that doesnt make sense.
my point being is that even if you half throttle it on the current map, the turbo will run out of steam when you get past 4500 revs. well for me anyways - the current map is very aggressive

the power curve changes obviously then

i know what your saying, im just saying it all wrong :p

You dont understand what I'm saying. If you feel your turbo runs out of steam at higher revs then this new map wont change that. It will be exactly the same. I dont think this map is going to give you what you want by the sounds of it.

The power curve does not change. Did anybody tell you it would?

it will.

like i said, half throttle at the moment means full on beans.

half throttle on the new map wont be.

you have more control.

gonna have a butchers at this golf thread

Correct, but dont confuse throttle actuation with engine power delivery. You wont get more power/torque at higher revs than you had before. All it does is require you to push the pedal further to open the throttle 100%. It doesn't do anything else

sure i understand.

its strange still,
i use a liquid gauge to check my performance levels and whenever ive applied a progressive throttle, ive always seen high figures compared with planting the living **** outta it.

theres a few on here who have seen the same results. strange but true

There must be some pretty complex mechanics going on to achieve that, far beyond my comprehension!

compred mate, compred, i would like a solid explaination why the k04 are like this please.

joke. i suspect lots of turbos are like this

traum - yes

Trauma, yes thats the theory, though in my experience it's still a bit on/off, just further along the pedal travel
