My cambelt failed at 75mph, and as yet taken the car to the garage for diagnosis, but having spoke with the garage the feasible options are reconditioned or second hand engine.

I have used some internet search sites and have managed to obtain a couple of quotations for what I guess is everything I shall need.

Any help will be of great help. I only got 47k miles from my belt, and I was planning to change the belt in 2k miles at the next service! ouch!

gutted for you mate. The only place I really know off are local scrappy's, although this is very hit and miss. May be worth giving a few local vag specialists a call and ask around. Bear in mind the engine is the same as featured in the mk4 golf; just bear in mind that you want the 5 speed non pd version.

I have started my search for a replacement ASV tdi engine for my 'unknown damaged engine' I have the following quotes for 'ENGINE COMPLETE'

quotes at (1) £595 + £45 delivery + VAT + 3 month warranty; or (2) £895 + free delivery + VAT + 12 month warranty
or
Second hand engine (53k) £1150 + £45 delivery + VAT + 3 month warranty

Now your help please:
(A) thoughts welcome on what questions should I check for? what should I expect from a recon engine that is complete?
(B) as I have specifically requested a search for Seat Leon TDI SE (110) engine, what alternative searches can I do, or are the providers aware of the use of such ASV engines in other models?
(C) Do you know if a (150) engine have the same mountings as the 110 - ie do I have an opportunity to buy a 150 bhp (6 speed) recon engine that would fit into the leon, simply buy a (150) recon engine and install as I plan to do with like for like replacement?

Thanks in advance... many troubled thoughts just now..

Can't advise about pricing, but the TDI 150 engine is a PD engine, and a lot different from the TDI 110. You'd need the ECU and wiring loom from the donor car, full fuel system (PD engines use a fuel cooler and have a lift pump in the tank) and a suitable exhaust system. Not impossible, but not a straight swap. I think the driveshafts are different as well. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

cheers muttley, i will just replace like for like. It was just an after thought. Have since got details that the (130) (6 speed) engine code is ASV. Although spoke to the garage who will do the work and he was hesitating on the electric side of things.. so will just seek a like for like engine.

cheers sssstew, I have not had the car into the garage, but had two mechanics comment the only viable option is reconditioned. One said that the engine 9/10 times would require a lot of time and work, so considering a recon engine was more viable option on the pennies. My estimate is circa £1200, as the guy who will do the work is guessing one day work (£400) + cost of recon engine (£850)

anyone know of what a full reconditioned engine should comprise of? cylinder block and cylinder head, anything else such as cambelt included?

Engines coded ASV are TDI 110, non PD engines - I have one in my Toledo.

TDI 130 engines in Leon or Toledo are usually ASZ. Other TDI 130 engines are AVF, AWX, BLT.
