Recently got oil temp and boost guage from halfords and the oil temp sender has two wires coming from it and not sure how to connect it now. Only says to run wire from guage to sender not to so what is other one for and which one do you use. The wires are black and white.

Right so white to the guage. have fitted boost guage and oil temp guage today, boost guage works fine and am really pleased with it and wired temp guage up just need to fit and wire the sender. Most people seem to have put the sender in the oil filter housing but had a go at that and couldn't budge the allen head nut. Am i right in thinking it sits flush facing upwards when you look down at the oil filter or have i got the wrong nut?

Nev put "Autogauge oil sender" into search and check out page 5. Just found it looks like i was trying to get the right nut out but the tw**s stuck. Gonna try and wd40 it for day or so and have another go or else its a sump plug adapter.

Well been at the blank plug on the oil filter housing today again after dousing it in wd40 and now well and truly rounded the allen nut head so looks like i'll be getting a bored out sump plug or a oil sandwich plate.

has anyone got a picture of where to plug the oil temp sender in ? All the threads that I can find have pictures that are no longer hosted. I think I know where it needs to go but would like to be sure. Undoing the hex bolt should be easy enough but getting anything in there looks less fun.

I have an LC not an LCR but I imagine it is all in the same place.

Hi Mate,

The location is on top of the oil filter housing at the front of the engine. I'm afraid I don't have a picture. The plug is a bit awkward to get to and it is a hex type plug.

There is no need to drain the engine oil out to do this job.

If you still can't find a picture drop me a PM and i'll take one for you tomorrow.

Cheers

as above; coat it is some dismantling oil before you attempt to undo it; and be prepared to destroy your knuckles :D enjoy!!

Do we need to use PTFE tape on the sender? I've read somewhere that doing this will prevent the sender from earthing properly but my sender has an earth cable. Also, when the blanking plug above the oil filter is removed does the sender just screw in without the need for any adapters?

I used PTFE tape as mine had a seperate earth too, its been fine. Also it will go straight in if its an M10x1mm thread on the sender unit. Mine were from gaugeplace.

I also brought a 10mm copper washer to take up the play between the sender and the thread face.

Fitted mine today without any problems other than feeding the wire through the bulk-head, same nightmare as getting the boost gauge pipe through. Once the blanking plug is 'cracked' it screws out easily and as mentioned above the sender is the same size. Did'nt use thread tape, just the copper washer that was on the blanking plug. I'll post up some pics at the weekend.

Hi mate,

I can't quite work out what your saying from the wording in your message, i guess you mean that the temperature goes up and down? or the lights on the temp gauge go up and down?

Cheers
