Ahhhhhh i sigh,

sits back and reads thread feeling rather smug.

My old FR was on average 230 ish miles to the tank 200 if pushed.

lowest i ever got the average down to was i think 14 mpg over 15 miles of backroad christmas eve 2004 as i tried to lose some nutter in a scooby who took a disliking to me, i did lose him too.

now i tend to get, well this morning it was 57mpg on the way to work over 65 miles and i may sit at 80 on the way home tonight so should see 50 mpg.

still can't believe i did 42000 miles in the 1.8t, the cost of it all, i feel faint now

Main reason i havent replaced my petrol cupra mk2 with another, if you sit down and add up the fuel bills compared to what a normal car and a diesel offer, you nearly fall over backwards

I had my cupra 6 months or 26 weeks at £20 on petrol a week thats £520 Thats normal driving

My 1.4 uses half that

Nah my last car was a 1.6 jobbie....and 20 quid a week was never a problem...but i've now owned the car a week and put 40 quid in.....and i haven't done my usual 60 mile trip at the weekend to see bf....am crossing my fingers they do say that something is wrong :(

The dealer reckoned 8mpg was normal eh?
Hmm, welcome to Seat dealers...the worst part of Seat ownership (IMHO)

Is 8mpg an average, over how many miles ? Definitely not right, unless it was over a very short trip.

I think there is definately something wrong, i bought mine with 2000 miles on and it was a shock at first but now i have 6500 miles on it it doesnt seem to bad, i put in about £30 - £32 in and that will get me to work and back all week which is a round trip of 34 miles a day, the work trips only uses about 1/2 a tank a week which i dont thinks to bad, and then going out weekends, i normally still have enough left to get to work again Monday.

maybe try going on a longer trip, let the car warm up properly and see if the mpg improves, doing short journeys, won't really help mpg

yeah probably hold the extra with the light on just so yu have a few miles left :) now you just need to do a few miles top her up and then you can wrk out the true mpg

oh dear, this doesnt sound good at all, imagine what it would be like if you was trying to race me  although you did tell me the other day that you raced a 206 gti and left it standing. Now this to me means that you probably used most of the rev range at more or less full throttle, which would be fireing the petrol in at a great rate of knotts. my advise would be to calm down dear, take your time, use the accelerator like you would a woman and then you would see the mpg rise quite a bit i would think ;)
