I had 8 inch rims and 10mm spacers on the LCR but front and rear never tried just the rear..... tbh I just wondered what the logic was.

IMO the suspension needs help all round over the OEM setup........a big beefy set of ARB's being a good place to start.

Seem to have gone a little O/T now tho....

If there's correct pressure and enough tread on the tyres, you shouldn't really be losing the tail at all, especially if you're going out of your way to avoid it. You've only got to do it with the wrong vehicles around you and you'll be toast.

If you're cornering correctly you should actually be accellerating very slightly through a bend to balance the car up. As somebody said, take all your speed off appropriately BEFORE the hazard or bend, select the appropriate gear also before it and then accellerate smoothly and gently through the bend. Unless you're on the Top Gear runway in a RWD car of course, in that case, feel free to dab the accellerator wildly whilst mid-bend

You don't know how fast you can take the corner till you are on the edge, and that take a bit of finding:)

That's sort of right but do you really want to be upside down in a ditch and saying 'oh right, so about 5 mile an hour less than that then' to your dead passenger?

My rule of thumb is that if I can hear the tyres squeal, I've taken it a few mile an hour too fast, because it really isn't much faster than that before you're getting intimate with a Horse Chestnut.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Dunlop SP Sports either. I had them lying around from another car so put them on but will never be getting them again.

Eagle F1s on the back atm and will be getting them again.

Perhaps he's used to posting on a corsa forum where everyone is 17, lol

Tyres squeel doesn't happen on my LCR till the back end gets loose, that'll be the limit!!

My fronts squeel like buggery, add another 10mph and say hello back-end!

Partly reason I love the Leon, it needs driving. My previous focus was too grippy, how anyone crashes one of them things is beyond me.

I had the same problem with my rear tyres.... I had new budget tyres on the back when I bought the car ( Wanli's )... they were sh1t.... every time it rained the back would step out...

changed to Toyo's T1R's all round..... Problem gone....

I have exactly the same on the rear of mine..Wanli's

When they went on, the car was horrible to drive, bouncy and the rear was really twitchy, however they are now starting to bed in after a good 2000+miles..or so I thought! I nearly lost the car going round a corner (slowly!) that I always go round..scared the f@@k out of me!

I'm getting some Continental's on friday now!

Hi mate, think this may be aimed at me as i brought the post back to life; my tyres were spot on pressure as I check them weekly when i wash and they had plenty of tread - they look new! They are just a really bad budget tyre that the dealer stuck on the car.

i had michelins all round on my old leon 1.4s and used to take the same roundabout a lot faster and not have a problem, which is why i was so suprised when the tail came out on the LCR; fortunately easy to catch on opposite lock, but not really expected at these speeds. and yes i know about braking before turning in and introducing power progressively out of bends.

anyway, falkens en route from camskill, getting fitted in the next few days hopefully, will let people know how i get on!

cheers

Okay mate, sorry about the 'teaching you to suck eggs' tone but you never know, you DO see really bad driving all the time, even from people with cars that suggest they'd know better. Usually the brake lights coming on after the bend has started is a good sign of it. I'll have to make a mental note to avoid that brand of tyres at any cost then!

Can't say I disagree with that mate ;)

agreed, a lot of cr*p drivers out there, especially in quick cars; but i'd like to think i'm not one of them. the only time i'll jab the brakes after turn in is in my pro-kart to eliminate understeer. on another note, does anyone know if kwik-fit will fit tyres bought elsewhere (camskill)? or any recommended fitting chains? cheers.
