my tyres were spot on pressure as I check them weekly when i wash and they had plenty of tread - they look new! They are just a really bad budget tyre

fortunately easy to catch on opposite lock, but not really expected at these speeds

Exactly the same situation for me, just rubbish tyres (At the correct pressures)..

Pat, i've just checked mine and they are rated W, which iirc is 170mph, so they are ok in that respect. also looked on kwik fit and they are hardly budget at £120 each including fitting.. thats the worst £120 you could spend!

agreed, a lot of cr*p drivers out there, especially in quick cars; but i'd like to think i'm not one of them. the only time i'll jab the brakes after turn in is in my pro-kart to eliminate understeer. on another note, does anyone know if kwik-fit will fit tyres bought elsewhere (camskill)? or any recommended fitting chains? cheers.

If you go into a small tyre place, even if it's a well-known chain, and pay cash, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to fit them for you. That way it just goes into their pocket and they don't have to account for any stock.

fair enough. just feel the peeps that sell these cars dont see them as performance hatches. the faster the car the better rubber required. so you drive out with a poor gripping rear and suddenly your in a death trap. as you know a brand new pair of tyres can upset the grip if shoved on the wrong end or they have less grip ability than the better but worn fronts... but to the seller your mr lucky as its got 2 new tyres

perhaps the laws on tyres need updating taking into account todays more powerful everyday cars:shrug:

yep, i don't think the dealer was very aware of the tyre issues. it turned out my car had 2 buckled wheels on when i bought it. the dealer took the wheels off the car and put 2 off another car on while he tried to straighten mine (they actually got condemned and i got 2 new ones which had to be colour matched as mine had been refurbed) but back to the point, for the week while this was going on; i had 2 badly worn p-rossos on the near-side, a dunlop sp on the osf, and a ceat tornado on the osr.. not the best match for a 225bhp car! but good service from the dealer replacing the wheels etc!

even after nearly 2000 miles the ceat tornados were still terrible - so its not like they hadn't had a chance to bed in. i agree that the law definately needs looking at; which will probably happen when they realise that the national speed limit is based on cars from the 70s and todays cars are a lot more advanced and speed limits need revising! ie: never

I've got some cheap things on the front that the dealer stuck on when I bought the motor. Had it six months now and the bloody things just won't wear down. They are shocking in the wet -- and I'm mean shocking, a granny kart could out corner me!!!

I was going to swap them for the Conti's on the back, but after reading this thread I think I'll stick with the rubbish ones on the front. I can handle understear in the wet (well sort of!), but the back sliding out isn't for me.

mate, at £60 each, i'd say stick 2 falkens on the front just incase you ever need to stop in a hurry in the wet and end up regretting being on sh*t rubber! just my opinion. alternatively, your fronts + my backs = massive 4 wheel drifts! lol

that's the funny thing... hard pulling away spins the wheels in the wet really easy, cornering is shocking, but the car seems to stop pretty well...

The car's in for a cam belt on Friday (at JBS in Chesterfield), so getting new rubber will have to wait till next month.

I doubt it will... the summer came and went about a week ago, all 5 days of sunshine in one go!

Dry is fine and I think thats why the tyres aren't wearing down quickly, the compound is so hard that in the dry I can get a bit of temp into them so they return ok grip and in the wet they never heat up meaning the hardness causes the tyre to slid... or they are just simply sh!t.

i think that it the problem with them, they are damn hard! maybe some tyre warmers needed ;) the best bit about mine is on kwik-fits website the description says: great wet weather handling.. thats true, if you are trying to drive into a ditch backwards! lol

 thats probably in the small print somewhere!

I can't find my brand stocked on anywhere, so haven't found any tyre reviews. I think they are called 'Event' or 'Aevnet' - I've made every effort to push the name out of my head.

My mate runs an on line tyre site and he just laughed at them when I first picked the car up - I can see why now.

Tyre warmers wont help as the cr@p tyre's you have will more than likely not have much flex n the sidewalls which is what's needed for a tyre to keep contact with the road. You'll also find that somewhere on the side wall of the tyre it will read M+S, this means the tyres are designed to be used on light snow and mud. So again will not grip well on wet or dry tarmac. As to the law on tyre's there are 2.
1: Legal tread limit 1.6mm
2: Only radial tyres are to be produced.
I can't see them making a new law because car's are now fast etc. They won't even make it law to put new tyres on the rear where possible. There is 1 law that they should bring in and thats to ban remould tyres. But each tyre manufacturer recomends that the tyres on the same axle should be of the same make tread pattern, as different tyres can and will out perform each other.

well i went to kwik-fit. £17 for fitting 2 tyres. they said that ceat tornado are their own brand, and their managers have said that they should advise all customers not to fit these tyres to performance cars! 2 falkens on the back now and what an improvement (although still bedding in so driving nicely :))
