I just had 4 toyo t1-s tyres fitted last week, had yokohamas on b4 that, seem to be better than the yokohamas in the wet so far but it hasnt really stopped raining recently so havent been able to test them out in the dry, seem good though, pleased as i got them for 50 quid each from Leigh tyres :D im running 205 40 R17 btw.

Wow, that's a very sharp price. Can't get them for that price in the Netherlands

For 50 quid you'll probably get NANKANG or WANLI's over here

Yeh its the cheapest ive seen the tyres for :) I got nankang tyres with my wheels but they were shockingly bad, especially in the wet.

I just got the basic ones again, even though my paperwork says I got 2's.
Mind you I can't complain, as my burst tyre just happened to be worn enough to need changing

It's all the distributor my local National dept use for Conti's had in [B)]

Well I have aset of Toyo T1R's to go on I have just fitted these to my other car (no laughing an Almera GTI is a seriuos piece of kit when you tune it!)
Anyways they are a BIG step up from the T1S's far better in the wet and good stable performace in the dry and seem much quieter as well in fact it might just be my memory but I think they have the edge on the Goodyear F1's in my opinion and work out at reasonable money defo worth a try!

I thought about getting a new set of tyres on for the winter, as the right rear needs fixed/replaced because there's a great big screwnail in the tread and the front tyres I was ripped off with at my first service are rubbish. I had P Zero Neros all round until then. They told me they were fitting Continentals, when infact they are Ventus Sport, a subsidiary of Continental or something like that, which they charged waaaay too much for, but that's another story for another day. Had a mate phone up and ask for some prices from his regular wheel/tyre/ICE place and he was quoted £300 for the full set of P Zeros. Anything with a decent brand name was at least £70-£75 each. I think I'll just stick with what I've got at the moment, unless any bargains come up. Bloke at work who has a Fabia vRS suggested Kumhos, which he got for £50-£55 each and said he rates them. But I'm not sure myself, not heard too much about them.

Can you repair a tyre after it's had a screwnail in the tread btw? Silly question, but it's the first puncture I've actually had in 5 years of driving and the old man has never had an alloy go flat, so he doesn't know either. Is it advisable to get a new tyre? :)

It depends where the puncture is really, but normally if it's in the centre of the tread you can get it repaired.

I know people who wouldnt get it repaired. Its never going to be as good as a new tyre, and you dont want a blow out doing 70 on the motorway....that said, im tight, and i'd get it repaired ;)

On another note... Got my Eagle F1's on... There great. cant spin the wheels in 2nd or 3rd and more! It grips and goes, plus they look lovely and are a noticibly quieter...just means i can hear the engine more though :(

hello!
I've been using the serie p-zero nero, and I assess them the best tires for this kind of car! Ultimate traction, handling, both accelleration and braking, and they're damn silent! However, as for Polish far from smooth streets- full of holes, the size of tire is wrong! Now I've switched to toyo proxes t-1 S 215/40/17 instead of 205/40/17. And that's the OPTIMUM! This size induces better traction, tire themselves are very good as well- but loud!, better than goodyear f1 gsd3 I suppose, still worse than p-zero.

ive got the toyo's (same size) on my fr and they are quality, pretty grippy aswell in wet and dry, but i do agree, they are a bit noisy, but nothing the radio wont drown out.

Recon the Conti Sport Contact 2 is the best.....Goes well on the Fabia Vrs and Porsche can't be wrong if there standard fit on their cars. Khumo is the best budget tyre if you can't stretch to something supersticky

Just to let you know, Kwikfit are pricematching anybody - including tyre vendors on the web - I just got four Pzero Neros on mine for £59 each (used www.tyrefitdirect.co.uk to get the price) :funk:

Also, I got 29.5k miles out my original set of Pzero's - motorway miles just add up, eh

Steve

Are Kiwkfit still running this promo? Any codes needed to quote?

Got my fourth puncture in the Ibiza last night :censored:

Ive not read any of this thread past my last post on teh first page, just to be usless, i have now got toyo proxies t1-r's on the front of mine with conti sports on teh back, £75 fitted via H_Man's tyre shop.

Stick to the road like poo to a blanket is all i can say! on the drive home was forced to an emergancy swerve / stop cos of some plonker cutting me up off the dartford tolls! braked so fast the abs completly missed the point, all you could smell was burnt rubber but hell did she stop fast!!!

just my 2p of experiences so far.

Get this, i asked two kwik fit places for prices mentioning about the daels they had on, the ashford one said £175 for to conti's fitted 205/45/16's the other (canterbury) wanted £250.

Seems abit of pot luck to me as canterbury branch didnt seem to know what i was talking about! Enough said really....

I've also just had a pair of Toyo Proxes T1-R fitted to the front, to replace the appalling Dunlop SP2000's (although I still have the remaining pair of those on the back).

The grip is miles better, both dry and wet. No more heart-stopping understeer, and the traction is better too.

The Toyos must also be a softer side-wall, because they feel so much more "supple" over rough tarmac and drain covers. The whole ride of the car is much better, and they're a bit quieter too.

And they look great too. I've even started deliberately parking at full lock. How sad is that? :)

Mine will be due for some new rubber soon and I will fit the T1 R's as on my last car they worked very well in the wet & dry!

I also used the T1 S's but they have now been replaced by the T1 R's

I have just put two Dunlop Sp2000 E's on, £90 a corner in a 205/45/r16. What makes you think they are appaling? My comparison is not really accurate because i am coming from 185/65/14 Firestone's! The change in grip and handling i find is amazing now, but i thought they were really expensive. Are the dunlops not very good then? Any ideas how long they will last? Not much motorway driving, a lot of roundabout in milton keynes though.

My car suffered really shockingly terrible understeer, particularly on greasy corners although they also didn't grip particularly well if driven enthusiastically in the dry. Also a lot of wheelspin.

To be fair, I had a somewhat mismatched pair of tyres on the front - one had about 6mm tread and the other only about 3mm. The 3mm one was also quite badly scrubbed on the outside edges. I suspect the previous owner didn't notice the wheel alignment until it was too late, and decided to only replace one of them - hence the different wear. Maybe my Dunlops performed badly simply because one of them was near the end of its life.

It's always difficult comparing tyres, because you're always replacing an old worn out set with brand spanking new ones - so the new ones will always feel massively better. Who knows - maybe in 20,000 miles I'll be moaning about my Toyos?!
