Thought I would share my findings of the new Michelin pilot sport 4s been on the car now for 2 weeks. before that I had contisportcontact 6 they where down to the limit in 4 months may as well have just thrown the £320quid at the wall. I have a cupra 280 stage 1 apr intake tt intake pipe the wheel hop and lack of grip was driving me insane. Since fitting the 4s all I can say is they have completely tamed the cupra. wet grip is fantastic and on the rare chance of a dry day they are nothing short of amazing they dig in like a mother ###### there that good they have made the contisport 6 feel like a budget tyre. got them from Ats for £194 each they are expensive but there on another level only time will tell how long they last but am loving them.:D:D
Great, you must be one of the very first that got them. With fwd cars pushing 300-400 bhp of course one has to have the best tyres and the 4s almost certainly is the best tyre ever for a road car as Michelin makes no claims in vain but has the data to back it up. Now I just hope they will make them as 18", although the regular ps4 is very good too and perhaps more fun when they slide progressively in the dry...

Maybe late, but if you can (19") and want to pay, get the Pilot Sport 4S instead of the Super Sport, as the 4S is the succesor of the PSS and better in every way.
If you're 18", get the PS4 if you prioritise all weather driving, PSS if you prioritise dry grip where it's a bit better but worse in the wet.
19" but have only done two front tyres will look again when changing rears

I've had ps4, contisport 5, and 6, f1 asymmetric, p zero ,verdiensten, you cant skimp on tyre choice when your running nearly 400bhp in a front wheel drive car. the ps4.s are the best tyres I have ever had. the contisport 6 is also a very Grippy tire in the wet and the dry but they are very soft and do not last long.

My friend had a chance to drive Tesla which was on Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 and the car had a grip like it was glued to the road.

The other tyre that is getting very good reviews on quality vs price is Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 K120.

so i would take these into consideration as well...

On a 150hp car, sure. But if you're tuned and running up to 400 bhp to the front wheels, I would get the best there are, otherwise you might as well gotten an FR and not bothered... The others are good no doubt, but not the best... :D

well tesla is not a 150hp car, just saying...:p

and the thread is also for FR owners so i think this info can help...

Tesla is 4wd and 2300kg with low cg, not comparable...

OP was question for the Cupra.

I can otherwise recommend tyrereviews.co.uk for a good overview and many tests of tyres.

Thanks for all the feedback .

I have what i needed but it is clear there are a number of factors involved in what makes the best tire.

Do you want Summer/Winter tires or just one.
Do you want great grip but happy to accept 5 - 8k life on the tire
Can you afford to spend over £200 on a tire
How you drive the car (along with the power the car has)
How you have modified your car
How long you want / need the tire to last

and I would also add to this where you live, for example if you live in an area with lots of speed bumps or roundabouts you may get a different wear patter to other people who live and drive on motorways all the time.

But I have now purchased two tires and will give feedback once i have driven on them for a while. As I also said earlier I have got good

Why are pilot sport 4 specified as summer tyres yet have an a rating for wet

I know someone who lives on a motorway but he doesn't have a car...

...or much else.

Just had a set fitted to my Cupra ST. Very early days and it's been very cold but they seem ok so far. Nice and quiet compared to the Conti 5s on there from the factory if road noise concerns you.

Tempted to swap the rears as well but still plenty of tread on them.

Just bought a set of MPS4's from recommendations on here and online reviews. I have a diesel FR at the moment and although it isn't at the same power level as the Cupra it does have over 350lbft of torque from 2000rpm and so traction is an issue sometimes!
I'll be going to them from Toyo R1R's, which are discontinued and were fantastic, a little noisier than most tyres but gripped like a limpet in all but standing water. If Toyo had a follow up tyre to the R1R's I'd have them on my car now.

First report on the MPS4's are that they are every bit as good as the reviews say. Traction at the limit in the damp when cornering is superb, breaks traction safely and in such a progressive way that it just promotes safe understeer. Even with 360lbft the tyres cope admirably with just a brief amount of break in traction in 1st on a damp surface. In the dry the grip is almost supernaturally good and you would really need to take it on track to induce any waywardness. Braking approaching corners is needed rarely as turn in is excellent and the tyres bite hard even at speeds you'd normally have not even tried on lesser road tyres.
All in all a great tyre. Time will tell with the wear rate, but the reviews are that this is good too.[B)]

Had the super sports on my old Focus and they are by miles the best tyre I ever put on it. Worth every penny and they must be sprinkled with fairy dust because they seemed to last forever too.

Did try some Asymmetric 3's on there just before I got rid of it and they were really decent too, almost as good as the supersports but came in about 40 quid a corner cheaper.

Be interested to hear what 0-60 people get with the S4 s .... ? Does it make the difference I'm led to believe.... may put a couple on front only

Two rather important things, very relevant if you care about 'best tyres' :
1) Don't put better tyres in the front only. Especially in the wet ((the 4S is in 'another league' to e.g. PSS) you might end up getting snap oversteer in critical situations, e.g. high speed obstacle avoidance. Something the esp will struggle to catch, and you even more if you have it (partly) turned off. This is how accidents happen.
2) Rotate your tyres. If you are serious about (tyre) performance, rotate your tyres *before* there is any significant difference in thread depth front/rear. This evens out wear and prevents you from driving with worn fronts promoting understeer, and then perhaps later replacing the fronts only, ending up in situation 1)

Or to summarise, rotate in good time and replace all four tyres at the same time, it does not actually cost more, the expense just comes a bit more sudden and with longer intervals.

Ive also got a 290 DSG. Its done about 9.5k (miles) including a full track day on the OEM's Pirelli P zeros.

The 2 fronts are abit worn now (4mm ish) and im noticing a reduction in traction when pulling away. Also i now have a decent size slash on the side wall of the front left (whoops) .... So... time to buy some new tyres.

The plan: Pretty satisfied from this thread that im gonna give the new Michelin PS4s a go. At £200 a pop im probably just going to get 2 for now. I will put these new Michelins on the back and put my remaining 2 Pirellis from the rear to the front. Does this make me a heathen?

I would like 4 shiny new ones but it seems a shame to waste 2 perfectly good pirellis.

Thoughts on the plan appreciated!
