Brake Advice

I've got a Cupra 280 and I need some new brakes.
I was thinking of getting some DS2500 pads but i'm unsure if I should marry it up with the oem discs or something more heat resistant.

I live in the city and don't take it on track but I DRIVE my car and like it to have good stopping power.

Would the DS2500 be suitable for both road and track use or more track use?

Brakes are a very open subject.

@SteA tracks his car and last time I spoke with him had just added better pads and was very happy with them on both Road and Track

I have the Revo Big Brake Kit using the DS2500 and very happy with them, although the MK1 Guys prefer the DS3000 for the track.

I personally like the DS2500 As they dont squeal (on my setup) and stop the car from very fast to stop nice and quick.

I would also suggest you get the audi brake ducts as they do help keep the brakes cooler in my personal experience.

I would hope so but I have not done it so can't confirm. One other thing from memory these disks don't have brake wear sensor so you will get error message. You can code it out or do some changes to fool it into thinking its still connected

I just fitted clubsport s discs and ds2500 pads tonight

Just went out to bed then in and bloody hell are they better than standard

They were 800g lighter than 10k mile old disc so guess they would be around a kilo lighter like for like with a new OEM disc

I've done DS2500's on stock discs and no cooling, on road they are fine even if pushing on, they do fade on track when pushing hard as the stock set up doesn't really have enough heat rejection capability - they would survive better with the audi ducts - on track I was seeing brake temps north of 650degC which would explain the fade on the 2500s. From my Experience on the leon the DS2500 is more of road orientated type pad that is capable of light track work. they come with the advantage of not generating lots of noise or dust. - that was with stock rear brakes on a cupra 280.

Currently on my Cupra 300 I have clubsport S discs and Pagid RSL29 pads on the front with audi ducts and Zimmerman drilled discs on the back with Endless A06 pads and overall I would say that's a fairly competent set up for track, brake temps are still massively high (to high in fact which I need to fix) Pagids don't suffer the temp fade until very high temps - however they come with the side effect of horrendous squeal / moan and pad knock - interestingly though this set up has better cold bite (down to ~5degC) than stock

I was looking at drilled discs but thought they would be better used for track which I'm not planning to do at the moment

I decided to go for the DS2500 pads with stock discs and RS3 air ducts, I'll look to fit them to the car this week once everything arrives.

I've got the rs3 ducts ordered but to be honest i doubt they would make much difference on the road at least.

Maybe trimming the backing plate down would aid cooling a bit on track but i only use mine on the road

If you are replacing the pads or the Brake Calipers and the new one's do not support the brake pad wear sensor then using the following

Long coding
Select Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Select Long coding (0)
Select Brake pad wear:
Change value to not installed

As above, the RSL29 pads plus brake ducts and fluid are excellent on a 280 with 380 bhp, you will likely need to spend money on cooling the engine / oil before the brakes become a big worry. They last well too; I could easily destroy something like a DS2500 in a trackday or two whereas these last for ages...

I used to use DS2500 in my Integra Type R for road and track use and thought they where fantastic and I'd still use them now if they worked with my set up.

Whats the recommend bedding in Miles for the DS2500? As my pedal isn't feeling as strong as it did with the old brakes.

We used to bed in two or three sets of pads at a time for the rally car-ready to use- several BIG stops from speed to get them really hot, allow them to cool and repeat 3or4 times, this may be an old fashioned method but it worked for us. I’m sure times/techniques may have changed so I’m prepared to be corrected.
