No one has it yet so ha you'll have to wait...

What a day today, worst nightmare probably becoming true, the rear beam mounting points on the drivers side seem to have been shunted. Whoever previously hit that corner must of done some serious damage :(. So after trying to get the drivers side rear bolt through the bush and into the mounting points me and a couple of mates decided it was definitely bent since the other side goes straight through. We double checked this by putting the bolt through the mounting point and looking at it's angle from underneath the bolt was as wonky as anything. The old bush must of been worn enough to allow the bolt to go through but these polys are just too stiff.

There only seemed to be one solution for this, to make the hole out the outer mounting point bigger, then some how make it smaller again once the bolt was through to stop play in the rear axle.

Pictures to show what I mean

All seemed so well

As you can see, about 3mm out, could not move this enough, even with a crowbar and two of us pulling

Wonky bolt

Larger hole made in outer mounting point

Nice thick washer used to stop play - I levered the beam back as much as possible before tightening the nut up to make sure it was as close to OEM position as possible

Bit of welding

Nut on the end

More welding

Finally - had to do it in sections as we didn't want the bush getting too hot and melting/ catching fire

Whipped the shifter box back off again for a paint

IMG_9510.jpg

IMG_9511.jpg

Whilst the paint was out I refurbed my centre caps as these are now discontinued and I couldn't get an replacements

Before

IMG_9513.jpg

Sand back with P180 then some 400 or so to make it smooth for paint

IMG_9514.jpg

Paint them up

IMG_9516.jpg

Sand back with some 320

IMG_9517.jpg

The SEAT logo is slightly convexed so when sanding down the whole thing it reveals sooner than the rest, it's not perfect but a lot better so I the lacquered it

IMG_9518.jpg

Today I needed to make a hole in the bulkhead in order to run the gear linkages through, killed two hole cutters so I ended up chain drilling the hole out....

Does anyone else have the issue of when engaging reverse gear, with their top mounted gear shifter, that your hand get's in the way because of the radio facia?
