Broken Alternator

There is a small blue wire to the alternator on my 97 2l 16v - the part of the alternator this connects to has broken off!
No warning lights on the dash.
Is this for the charging warning light?

Hi, Ed. Generally OK but the car's turning into a money pit!
FK suspension's on its way from Germany.
4 new Toyo R's.
New V & ribbed belts going on.
Cam cover gasket's blown - filling the spark plug wells with oil!
Breather hose to idle stabilisation vave is shot - no wonder the alternator's gunged up with oily debris & the idle's all over the place!
