be happy with a pre face model! you can get new bumpers if you wish later.
i think its a better looking car, and with the change get a map and bigger dp.
coil packs can be dodgy. and check carpet for water stains.

Arches
Door bottoms
Paintwork (check bonnet/bumpers for stone chips), (check all panels for consistency in colour)
Under bonnet check for oil leaks and hose cracks
Wear on tyres, check condition of tyres
Seats for wear
Seat belt fittings
Door seals, including checking under all carpets for signs of damp
Check under carpets for any signs of welding (including under boot)
VIN Intact
Windows with VIN
Stickers concealing something?
On test drive
Check brakes for strength and sound
Check pulling to one side at cruise and at breaking
Check gear change (particularly between 1st/2nd)
Check 3/4th between 4000 and 5000 revs
And all the usual stuff.
What am I missing, obviously daft stuff like electrics need to be working, check all lights etc, although it is having a full MOT so it would have to have indicators and things like that.

One other thing I thought of earlier is if it has a 6 cd changer - check that it actually works. Common fault is that it'll not read the disc and display "Disc Error" on the head unit. Not aware of a fix (beyond replacement).
With it only having 23k miles, the engine bay should be pretty clean. Just make sure the service history doesn't have any anomalies (pages missing, mileage numbers or dates scribbled on). (Think I'm stating the obvious now so I'll shut up...though its easily missed.)

I would have an eagle eye on the SH anyway, but thanks for the reminder.
Whilst I had thought to test all electronics, I probably wouldn't have had a CD on me, so I will make sure I take one.

Might be worth checking the seatbelts themselves, to see if the pre-tensioners have fired? The nylon strap will be worn looking (fluffy) in an area if they have. If they have, then you know the air bags have gone off, and it's been pranged...

Only thing wrong with it was that it has a slight mark on the steering column (looks like blistering plastic or something like that).
And it's missing the cigarette lighter.
Otherwise immaculate condition.
Goes like an absolute ****ing missile, although I am comparing to driving a J reg orion 1.6 non injection so I am sure it should, but I genuinely didn't think it would be that quick.
Now then you lot have been more than helpful so far, so I am sure you will rigth on the mark with this one; They have offered me an extended (3 year) parts and labour warranty for £500, should I take it?

when you get used to the power a remap will bring the grin back.
no ideas re warrenty. id check the small print on what it covers. my leon has been pretty reliable cept for a few sensor faults and mines not standard.

Forgot to say warranty comes with 3 years AA cover worth £360, £140 for 3 year warranty, I don't really know why I am asking it's a bit of a no brainer really.

Well done, it should give you plenty of quality miles of motoring. (I should know, mine's done almost 170k and still feels great).
I got the same feeling of remarkable step up when I bought mine...coming from a Rover 214 I suppose it didn't take too much either.
As for the warranty...I'm always very cynical about these things. I'm inclined to say don't bother as it probably won't cover a lot of things that you think it should. At least thats what I've heard from a few people...

I read something about gold, but checked AA site and it doesn't have a "Gold" option.
I know it definitely had roadside, home start and the other one I could tell you if the AA site wasn't brokendown, pun very much intended.
I am pretty sure it was the top dollar one, it actually said on the slideshow I was show "worth £120". So it can't be worth £30.
Honestly I bet the rover was quicker than my orion, the fastest car I have driven before buying this car was my old mans honda accord 2.0 DAMN its gonna be fun.

Friend of mine's uncle needed some computers looking at (I am the resident geek). Went over and he took me out for a spin in his motor.
Porsche 997 Carrera S with a GT3 body kit, sweet lord have mercy that thing is insane, 140 and it still had me pinned in chair, B E A U Tiful car. 6th gear and it goes from 70 to 130 in about the same time as it takes you to scratch your nuts.
Still it was over 10 times what I am paying for the Leon so it should be.

If you don't smoke, replace it with the Touareg torch.
I did actually see them on awesome-gti, but wasn't sure if they were VW branded, can you get seat one's? Or are they just unbranded?

Well, if you look at my sig I've hardly gone for big time mods myself!
Yes the torch is a genuine one for the VW Touareg and works in Leon/Toledo. There is no VW logo on them. In fact it sits nicely concealed behind the ashtray cover. It is rather pricey but it's good to know that theres always a charged up torch there with no risk the batteries have run flat or leaked!
Right quick question, quick but not that simple.
My LC has full service history, serviced in Jan 2002,3,4,5,6 and by the dealer I bought it from in August 2006, this means the next service is due August 2007 (I won't do 10,000 miles by then).
Problem is the cambelt will be 5 years old before then, do I have to get it done in January or would it be ok to wait until August when the next service is due?
(I have a warranty btw so I need to keep to correct intervals)

i'd basically ignore the service that was done in august and carry on with the 'every january' schedule.
Then again January is a crap month to have an expensive service. In which case you could just run to a service every august and get the cambelt done as soon as you can afford it, seperate from the service; doesn't matter if it's not done exactly on five years, but for peace of mind (and warranty) you'll need it done sooner rather than later. Why not get the belt changed now?
I have the exact same problem car had 50k service in August, all other services were Jan (including 40k) Dealer has stamped book for 50k service and entered Jan as the next service date. At first i thought it was for the camblet but mine is a '03 so it wont be 5 years for another year yet. Maybe service technician was just an idiot!
