just went to start my car and it turns over and fires then just dies, tried dabbing the throttle to help it but to no avail, there is planty of petrol and i used it about an 1hour before hand, can smell petrol so i'm ruleing out any fueling issues,

my first thought is maybe a intercooler pipe popped off or a faulty MAF?

Any help is most appreciated.

sounds more like an immobiliser problem to be honest try starting it with another key.
have you dropped the key and it hap split open since you last drove it?????????

i can try the other key but i'm using the one with the r/c buttons and it opens the doors and allows me to turn the ignition, surely if it was an immobiliser problem it shouldn't allow me to turn the engine over?

just checked the vacum hoses that i'm aware of and no splits/ loose ones, also checked the MAF and no different.

Would the coolent temp sensor be at fault?

does anyone know where the immobiliser unit in the dash is hiding as i spoke to the dealers and they said it could be that?

Cheers in advance

had another look at it today and my mate scaned for codes on his reader but none have come up!!:censored: he seems to think it it's not getting a spark or the TDC sensor has gone:

1) where's the TDC sensor on the block/gearbox?
2) how can i check for a spark with it being coilpacks?

thanks Tim

has anyone got a clue to what it could be, as it's doing my head in now just sitting there!!!

my main concern is that it could be the ecu, is there any way to test it or would the only option be to swap it with another one?

update, jabba have changed the ecu for another one and still no joy!!

they still can't get vagcom to communicte with the ecu and are saying thats it's and electrical fault but are not sure where,

1. Has anyone experienced this before not being able to communicate with ecu, how did you sort it ?
2. is it difficult to replace the loom (engine/ecu/ignition) if needs be can any onw do it?
3. How much is a new loom?

Sorry for all the Q's but its really starting to get to me know!!! lol

Mine has just done the same thing mate :(

My clocks died before hand aswell... dont think its going to be cheap :(

you checked your fuses? under your steering wheel, one of mine went (cant remember which now) and it done the same, vagcom wouldnt communicate and car started then died straight away after about 2 seconds, was just 1 dead fuse under the steering wheel and it sorted it

hope this helps

Yeah mines running now, thank god it was only 10 weeks in total!!!

It turned out it was the immobiliser in the clocks itself that had gone wrong, so a new set coded sorted it out.

But as with everything don't rule out the obvious first, as David_smith_909 says could just be a fuse.
