Just re done thermostat I used old washer as the new one must have been **** filled it up let it bleed took it for three or four runs no leaks but thermostat hose is not hot

Why does it take so long for the thermostat to open because it's new just took it for a drive done about 3 mile still closed

after finding another stupid bolt i managed to re fit my stat.......what a pain in the arse to fit the bottom bolt(well i found ):(
new seal and the stat.this is how i blead the system all is good no leaks or nothing heaters working hot as well.a guide how i did it mate.....

ENGINE OFF
1 take the cap off
2 fill the coolant tank up
3 squeese the bottom hose
4 blow into the tank a few times(you will hear it burping air leaving tank)
5 re fill the coolant tank

CAP STILL OFF
6 start the engine
7 heaters on cold full power
8 let the engine run for 5 mins or so (might burp abit)
9 turn off the engine for 2mins or so (some more air still might leave the coolant tank, burps)
10 re fill the tank and start the engine
11 still leave the heaters on for about 10 mins/then turn on the heaters on it should be warm.
12 check the top hose is warm & the coolant.

once all this is done i topped it up drove around for a abit (5mins or so) and the temp guage risen up to the 90dgs mark.

tbh mate if your heaters are warm and top hose is warm and the temp guage is working as normal then your stat should work.yet again i very dought you would/should get any leaks after the drive as there is only 2 clips you take off(bottom hose and top hose where the stat is)
i was having my small leak where the stat was small drips(seal was fooked)
long winded i know im just getting use to working on the seats my self we all learn mate some how normally the hard way like me and a stupid bolt
:help:
hope your problem is sorted out mate.:)

Thanks mate I change the oring last night on the new stat because I think the old one was pissing out as soon as I drove it it leaked. But this time I have drive it a couple times and this morning I drove it for about fourth mins everything was hot no leaks so when I get home it will have been sitting for 7 8 hours so just gonna take cap off and fill it to the level it should be at and shud be okay fingers crossed

I just checked my level after car been sat for 10 hours and it was still at the level I left it at so just topped it up to where it should be so hopefully everything okay it still made a slight pressure sound so maybe a little air in there at worst

Just been for a spin coolant dropped to just above minimum I pressume this will go back up when engine cools. No visual leaks the only thing that happened is the temperature went past 90 for about 20 seconds or so just another notch and the thermostat hose doesn't seem to be getting really hot like it use too

The water was lower after I had ran it than when I started it not the other way round. And I dunno if fan kicked in I was driving.

The level rises with heat, it doesn't drop. If the level has dropped let the engine fully cool and top up as necessary.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but maybe someone could shed some light on my niggly problem,

I've noticed since my car has had the cambelt & waterpump replaced (which was carried out last weekend) the temp gauge in my Leon S 1.6 never seems to go up to 90c anymore, it always stays right in between 60c and 90c, but most of the time sticks to the 70c ish mark!

I did have the CTS problem a month ago where it affected the temp gauge and had warm starting trouble, but after replacing the sensor it cured the problem right up to when I had the cambelt & waterpump done! My mechanic mate who carried out the work did say that he had to re-fill the tank quite a bit with new engine coolant due to loss while replacing the waterpump...

Any ideas guys?

Thanks - Liam

you would soon know when the fan is out of action mate,if you have done your 5miles blast ur fan is fine without it your be in trouble.
give it a week driving it around see how you get on.not sure on how long it would take your desiel to warm up but on the turbo cars wont take too long
