'Clicking' noise coming from rear

Hi guys,

Since yesterday I have been getting a sort of 'clicking' noise (with lack of better word to explain) from the rear.
I can only hear it when driving slowly preferably not accelerating as engine/exhaust noise over rules the noise.

I jacked up the car and gave the wheel a good wiggle and nothing to be noticed there.

The noise stops when I press the brake. And it seems to be coming from the right rear side only

I am greasing up my coilies all round and fitting new top mounts/bearings on saturday as i've been meaning to do this for a while so would like to look at the clicking sound too.

Any advice on what it could be?

Did a search but not sure what to search for...

What are symptoms of rear bearing going?

Sitting here thinking about the problem kind of makes me think it might have something to do with the brakes? as the sound goes away when touching the brake...and the bearing would still spin whilst braking so would still have to make the noise?

I replaced discs and pads about 2 months back.

ok to add a little info which might lead to a reply:

how possible is it that my pad is loose in the carier? I mean I wouldn't know how its possible, but there is definately something rattlin and when I ever so gently press the brake it immediately stops making the noise...

any feedback would be great

i was going to say stone in your tyre at first, but....

try taking your rear brakes to bits, clean it all up and refit hopefully just a bit of crap in them mate

Check your brake lights.

I had similar when the rear jet leaked at the hose by the nearside cluster, clicking must have been water seeping into it and shorting the bulb.

Thats if its a clicking and not a light or heavy knocking!

yeah this is kind of the problem not being native english speaker. I don't know how to describe the sound (difficult without sound lol)
But its not a sound of something shorting i.e lights. They work btw. And I don't have a rear jet as the cordoba didn't come with a rear whiper.
It sounds something like a messep up bearing but then softer. But imo it can't be a bearing as it stops when braking like mentioned above

As for stone its not that else it would still make the sound when gently pressing brake.

Saturday I will be taking the whole lot off wanting to re-copper grease them anyway as they squeek slightly. Hoping that will solve this.

a common fault is the rubber 'bush' on the top of the suspension strut, that can break causing a small bump/knock.

also the exhaust can do the same, when its cold see if you can move the exhaust and see if it hits anything.

also push the rear up and down see if you can hear anything, with the boot open also listen around the suspension.

Exhaust is not the problem. that's not hitting anything.
Top strut might be it, but again I wouldn't know why it would stop when braking.

But as said tomorrow I'll be taking my suspensions coilovers apart to grease them up, so also the rubber bushes on the rears. I'll also take apart the brakes and hope that either will solve this.
I'll post after tomorrow what it was/if it was solved.

Ok i have sorted this today.

It turned out that my safety screw holding on the disc to the hub was half undone. No idea how that happened, but it meant the disc was free to move, and thus creating the noise.

I did it up tight again and stuck my spacers against it, so doubt thats gonna undo any time soon again lol

Yeah i agree! was kind of shocking to see it like that.

The disc couldn;t fall off due to it being on the hub obviously, but I always figured the wheel was supposed to 'clamp' the disc on the hub due to it being tight on with the rim/hub bolts??


Anyway the spacers keeps it on nicely now, but I'm glad I sorted it quickly. Not very safe these kind of things

Old topic but the wheel bolts keep the disc in place. All the little screw does is hold the disc in place when the wheels are off so it easier to refit them.

yes I realise that, but that still makes me wonder how the bolt came undone, and the discs was able to move ever so slightly.

that was before the spacers were on though. Not had this problem since either
