hi again, i know, you maybe thinking that my car is falling apart.... but.....

i have noticed a clicking noise from the front of the car, but it can only be heard when the car is moving.

i originally thought that maybe something is caught against the wheel but i can not see anything...

does anyone know what i am on about or what can be the cause?

Have you checked the drive shafts? Sometimes knackered c.v joints can make a clicking noise.

What model age n mileage is your car?

sorry i should of said.....
i have jacked the car up and there is nothing that i can see stuck in the tread.

there is nothing caught in the wheels....

i have a 2004 54 cupra Tdi which is currently on about 44k.

Driveshafts should be ok with that age n mileage....unless you wheelspin it everywhere!

I read on here that the Seat Sport callipers can create problems, sticking pistons etc. Maybe a search will bring up some info.

Have you tried driving each wheel whilst the car is jacked up, and getting someone to try and pinpoint the noise?

Split CV boot and all the grease has come out so the CV joint is dry, eventually it will fail and the noise will get worse.

Jack it up look just inside from the wheel around the anti roll bar bracket area, if you see black grease then thats your problem.

the noise did not happen in neutral....

i jacked it up and had a gook look around, could not find anything......

so i took the plunge and took it to my local garage.... (He thought initially it was a gearbox baring) but said it shouldnt be as my car is quite low milage)(after road test). so i left it with them and it got diagnosed as Engine mount was broken......

quite lucky really, did not want to look in my rearview miror and see my engine somewhere down the M3!

Don't worry, your engine has more than 1 mount. You could have 2 or 3 of them broken and your engine would still stay under the bonnet.

Sounds as though the engine was sitting at a strange angle where a mount had broken and this was making one of your drive shafts click as it wasn't in line with the hub corectly.

alas, after picking up the car, the noise is still there..... So back in it goes.... Keep you updated..

i have had 2 years of not needing to repair anything, so had to happen sooner or later.!
