Clutch failure Mk1 Leon TDI FR

what are the chances of my clutch failing and needing a full new unit at a cost of £1000 (including new flywheel) in a 55 plate Mk1 Leon FR? 45k on the clock, no track days and a lot of motorway driving? Still under warranty, dealer says no defect and a grand is the best they can do?

Sounds about right at a main dealer.
Go to a specialist if there is no warranty.
Dual mass £200 plus vat
Std clutch £145 plus vat
Labour Up to £200

no remapping, car as bought from the dealer.
still under warranty, my question is whether it is likely that it would fail - i haven't even replaced the brake pads on the car, so a clutch failure seems like a warranty issue and not a wear and tear thing.

I changed mine at 105k (standard then) and the bloody thing was only half worn.
To answer the question cant see why it would fail unless its abused really.

i'm a little bemused myself - is it likely that i would be able to crack it? or any reason why when i've asked them 4 times to put the clutch back together, they'd keep finding a reason not to?!

Why not use this as an excuse for an upgrade ?

£1000 will get you a remap & Sachs raching clutch kit - 190bhp & 330lb/ft torque

Have been told that the clutch has worn out and the flywheel is cracked, therefore i need a whole new one. I've said that I can't afford a grand right now, so asked if they would put it back together so i can take it away. Now garage has suggested contacting Seat to see if it could be a warranty issue.

As i said, 45k on the clock, car as bought from dealer in 05, no mods, no remap, no track days, just standard motorway driving.
Original issue was that it felt like the clutch was stiff when trying to change gears, so asked them to look at it, now they say it'll judder and slip out of gear if they put it back together.

I've only just been told that the flywheel is cracked after 3 days of the car being in the garage, starting to get a bit concerned that I might be being messed about or that they've broken it and are trying to get me to cover the costs!

I could be way off the mark and the garage is actually really trying to be overly helpful... but that goes against every garage ethos i've ever experienced so far!

You can get an uprated sachs clutch form CBP for under £500 and labour poss around £175.

Sorry I forgot about the cracked flywheel.
You need to get Seat customer services involved really.
See if they will pay something towards the cost of the full repair as I can't see why the flywheel would be cracked unless it was down to
1. Abuse and that would have to be serious abuse it would have got extremely hot maybe
2. Manufacturers defect

and no, it has not been *seriously* abused!

may not have been abused by yourself, but perhaps by the previous owner or garage if been on forecourt and used by staff.

You have the V5 which should give details of previous owner.
See if you can call them and politely ask if they had any issues, why sold etc?
some people do this to confirm mileage before purchase in case been tampered with - so would seem all good.

Strangley mi ibiza (2002) was purchased with just 38K on the clock, clutch burnet out within a week of me having it! was previously owned by a lady and the dealer changed it for me! i couldnt believe it went under 40K!!!!

no-one has ever driven the car apart from me, so am 100% sure it's not been ragged or anything...

still bemused by the lack of response from SEAT and the garage about it...

A crack on the flywheel is very unusual. Usually if a clutch is on its way out the pedal will have to be depressed further and it will start slipping. If you could get a picture of the clutch and flywheel it would be a lot easier to diagnose the problem.
